What you’ll be doing

Risk Management is led by the SEVP and Chief Risk Officer (CRO) and is accountable on matters relating to the independent oversight of the management of risks inherent to the activities of CIBC, its subsidiaries and affiliates. These risks include but are not limited to ensuring that effective processes are in place for the identification, management, measurement, monitoring and control of operational, reputation and legal, market, credit, strategic, investment and liquidity risk, collectively “CIBC Risk”, incurred by CIBC’s retail and wholesale businesses, infrastructure and corporate governance groups.

The Senior Manager will be reporting to the Director, Governance and Controls in the Risk Management Governance & Business Effectiveness Team. Your primary responsibility will be acting as the Control Advisor and supporting various Risk LOBs on identifying and documenting new or existing controls related to regulatory compliance risks.

At CIBC, we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you’ll succeed

  • Relationship management – A key attribute you will have will be your ability to effectively interact and build relationships internally and externally to Risk Management. You will be the point of contact for all Governance and Controls related matters for the LOBs assigned.

  • Analytics and reporting – Report to the senior executives on the status of the control environment which may include control testing results, deficiency remediation status and related KRIs.

  • Creative thinking – You will think differently, see opportunities where challenges and efficiency opportunities appear to exist, and propose and implement creative solutions.

  • Project management – You will provide rigor and structure around the scheduling and organizing of the work that we do in this unit. You will assist the assigned LOBs to manage deficiency remediation progress and action plans as well as internal/external audits and compliance examinations.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate 3-5 years of experience in control advisory or testing in Risk Management and/or Audit.

  • It’s an asset if you have relevant designation (CFA, CPA, CIA, etc.). You have Risk Management functional knowledge.

  • You're driven by collective success. You know that collaboration can transform a good idea into a great one. You understand the power of an inclusive team that enjoys working together to bring a shared vision to life.

  • You're passionate about people. You find meaning in relationships, and surround yourself with a diverse network of partners. You build trust through respect and authenticity.

  • You love to learn. You're passionate about growing your knowledge, and you know that there is no limit to what you can achieve.

  • You engage with your heart and mind. You care about people and understand different perspectives. You listen and learn from the experiences of others.

  • You act like an owner. You thrive when you're empowered to take the lead, go above and beyond, and deliver results.

  • You understand that success is in the details. You notice things that others don't. Your critical thinking skills help to inform your decision making.

  • You embrace and champion change. You'll continuously evolve your thinking and the way you work in order to deliver your best.

  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work and you live our values – trust, teamwork and accountability.
