Job summary

SYSTRA Canada is seeking an Environmental Design & Approvals Manager to lead environmental design integration across project corridors and oversee approvals strategy for transit projects in Ontario. This role requires 8–10 years of relevant experience and a degree in planning/environmental planning or related field.

Qualifications

• 8–10 years of work-related experience on projects of similar size, scope and complexity to the Project ( Ontario ).
• Degree in planning, environmental planning, geography, environmental engineering or another related discipline.
• Knowledge of Ontario Transit Rail Project Assessment Process, GO Transit Class EA Document, and Environmental Assessment Act (Ontario).
• Experience managing all Environmental Aspects of transit projects in Ontario.
• Knowledge of relevant federal and Ontario environmental policies and ISO 14001 EMS experience.
• Experience liaising with other consultants, contractors and governmental authorities.

Responsibilities

• Completes the review of investigations and reporting.
• Identify data gaps and oversee development of scope and schedule.
• Lead the SME team to complete Due Diligence work and reporting.
• Incorporation of requirements into design.
• Confirm that requirements and commitments are executed.
• Lead environmental design integration across all technical disciplines for the project corridor.
• Oversee environmental approvals strategy and ensure compliance with EA commitments, permits, and regulatory conditions.
• Coordinate with design teams, construction leads, and regulators to resolve environmental risks.
• Responsible for environmental deliverables (including EMPs), schedules, and multidisciplinary coordination.

Missions / Main Duties

• Completes the review of previously completed investigations and reporting.
• Identify data gaps and commitments and Oversees development of the Investigation scope and schedule.
• Lead the subject matter expert team tasked to complete Due Diligence work and reporting.
• Incorporation of requirements into design.
• Confirmation that requirements and commitments are executed.
• Leads environmental design integration across all technical disciplines for the project corridor.
• Oversees environmental approvals strategy and ensures compliance with EA commitments, permits, and regulatory conditions.
• Coordinates with design teams, construction leads, and regulators to resolve environmental risks.
• Responsible for environmental deliverables (including EMPs), schedules, and multidisciplinary coordination

Profile / Skills

• 8 - 10 years of work-related experience on projects of similar size, scope, and complexity to the Project;
• a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in planning, environmental planning, geography, environmental engineering or another related discipline;
• knowledge of the Province of Ontario’s Transit Rail Project Assessment Process, GO Transit Class EA Document, and Environmental Assessment Act (Ontario);
• experience in successfully managing all Environmental Aspects of transit projects in the Province of Ontario;
• knowledge of relevant federal and Ontario environmental policies, procedures and legislation experience with implementation and management of environmental management systems that conform to ISO 14001;
• Experience liaising with other specialty consultants, contractors and Governmental Authorities; and

experience with similar projects in the Province of Ontario.
