Job summary

SYSTRA Canada is seeking an Environmental Design & Approvals Manager to lead environmental integration across transit projects in Ontario. You will oversee environmental deliverables, approvals strategies and regulatory compliance while coordinating with design teams, contractors and authorities.

This role requires 8–10 years of relevant experience, a related degree, and knowledge of Ontario environmental processes. P.Eng or PMP are assets; we welcome a diverse, inclusive workforce.

Qualifications

• 8–10 years experience on projects of similar size, scope and complexity.
• Degree in planning, environmental planning, geography, environmental engineering or related discipline.
• Knowledge of Ontario Transit Rail Project Assessment Process, GO Transit Class EA Document, and Environmental Assessment Act (Ontario).
• Experience managing all Environmental Aspects of transit projects in Ontario.
• Knowledge of federal and Ontario environmental policies, procedures and legislation; EMS ISO 14001.
• Experience liaising with consultants, contractors and governmental authorities; experience with similar Ontario projects.

• Completes the review of investigations and reporting.

• Lead SME team for Due Diligence work and reporting.
• Incorporate requirements into design.
• Ensure execution of requirements and commitments.
• Lead environmental design integration across technical disciplines.
• Oversee environmental approvals strategy and compliance with permits and EA commitments.
• Coordinate with design teams, construction leads and regulators to resolve environmental risks.
• Manage environmental deliverables (including EMPs), schedules and multidisciplinary coordination.

Context

We are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic candidates for the position of Environmental Design & Approvals Manager.

Missions/Main Duties

• Completes the review of previously completed investigations and reporting.
• Identify data gaps and commitments and Oversees development of the Investigation scope and schedule.
• Lead the subject matter expert team tasked to complete Due Diligence work and reporting.
• Incorporation of requirements into design.
• Confirmation that requirements and commitments are executed.
• Leads environmental design integration across all technical disciplines for the project corridor.
• Oversees environmental approvals strategy and ensures compliance with EA commitments, permits, and regulatory conditions.
• Coordinates with design teams, construction leads, and regulators to resolve environmental risks.
• Responsible for environmental deliverables (including EMPs), schedules, and multidisciplinary coordination

Profile/Skills

• 8 - 10 years of work-related experience on projects of similar size, scope, and complexity to the Project;
• a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in planning, environmental planning, geography, environmental engineering or another related discipline;
• knowledge of the Province of Ontario’s Transit Rail Project Assessment Process, GO Transit Class EA Document, and Environmental Assessment Act (Ontario);
• experience in successfully managing all Environmental Aspects of transit projects in the Province of Ontario;
• knowledge of relevant federal and Ontario environmental policies, procedures and legislation experience with implementation and management of environmental management systems that conform to ISO 14001;
• Experience liaising with other specialty consultants, contractors and Governmental Authorities; and

experience with similar projects in the Province of Ontario.
