The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Summary

The Senior Manager, EDI and Indigeneity leads the development and implementation of equity informed strategies and initiatives across the Faculty of Forestry (Forestry) and Faculty of Land and Food Systems (LFS). This role advances Indigenous and EDI priorities through strategic planning, organizational change, program delivery, and community engagement. Through the design and facilitation of initiatives, this role strengthens capacity and raises the awareness of inclusive values across academic and operational settings. The incumbent will collaborate closely with faculty, staff, and external partners to ensure consistency of practice and adhere to UBC regulations, policies and procedures.

The ideal candidate will have lived experience of equity issues and deep understanding of EDI that they will bring to the role. Partnering to educate, advise, guide and champion behaviours that support diversity, Inclusion, equity & action within the Faculties and across the University community.

Organizational Status

Reports to the Associate Dean, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, Faculty of Forestry and Associate Dean, Equity, Decolonization, & Inclusion, Faculty of Land and Food Systems. The Senior Manager, EDI and Indigeneity will lead the implementation of EDI and Indigenous initiatives to advance the Forestry and LFS mission. The incumbent will provide support to the academic and administrative units across the Faculty to ensure integration, communication and execution of the Faculties' strategic priorities.

The Senior Manager works collaboratively with Departments, Schools, units and student organizations and other units on campus; and with the Faculties' administrative heads, faculty, staff and students.

Work Performed

Strategic Facilitation & Advisory

  • Act as an advisor to administration and senior leadership on policy, planning and change strategies to embed equity, diversity, inclusion and Indigeneity in Forestry and LFS.
  • Lead strategic planning workshops, retreats, or learning dialogues related to EDI and Indigeneity, and incorporate insights and observations from facilitation, coaching, projects and initiatives to inform ongoing strategic planning
  • Develop policies, processes and resources that support equity-focused organizational change.
  • Lead initiatives to advance EDI best practices, standards, processes and resources. Identify alignment opportunities with UBC-wide EDI and Indigeneity strategies
  • Contribute to evaluation or reflection activities on a qualitative, insight-based level
  • Draft reports, including the provision of success metrics, tangible outcomes of various projects and initiatives to support senior leadership decision making

Program & Project Leadership

  • Lead and facilitate the delivery and development of faculty programs, including joint programs in partnership with other faculties (e.g. the IDEAL Certificate program, the Indigenous Bridging Pathways program, etc. This includes evaluation and management, scaling of programs, knowledge management, governance, community engagement structures, change management, and training.
  • Mentor EDI champions through peer learning circles, coaching, and facilitation

Community & Relationship Engagement

  • Support respectful and protocol-informed engagement with Indigenous partners (e.g., Musqueam)
  • Facilitate or support collaborative engagements with internal and external stakeholders

Performs other duties as required.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
The incumbent represents the Deans, the Associate Deans and the Dean's office when completing projects and engaging with stakeholders, both inside and outside of the University. The incumbent works in conjunction with other units and stakeholders and therefore is responsible for ensuring that projects are completed in a timely and efficient manner. Delays may result in loss of opportunity, funding or stature of the Faculty and the University.

Supervision Received
Reports to the Associate Dean, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, Faculty of Forestry and Associate Dean, Equity, Decolonization, and Inclusion, Faculty of Land and Food Systems. Works with considerable latitude. Work is reviewed in terms of achievement of specific goals.

Supervision Given

Supervises temporary employees and/or student employees. Advise Department, School, and unit EDI champions. Provides direction to Admin support in Dean's office as required. Provides orientation, training and direction to staff, faculty and students across the Faculty on initiatives and activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of five years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. law, education, psychology, social work) preferred.
  • Demonstrated training and experience on equity, diversity, inclusion or intercultural competencies in related disciplines is preferred. Background in adult education or student development ideal.
  • Proven experience and demonstrated knowledge in the development, implementation and facilitation of educational programs related to equity, inclusion and diversity, preferably in a university setting.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and facilitation skills, analytical thinking skills, and organizational ability.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for dealing in confidential and extremely sensitive situations with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to effectively execute directives, policies, and strategies, and the ability to make sound judgments and careful evaluations of alternatives in the absence of specific policies.
  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders across campus, at times with the greater community, and to develop and sustain effective and collaborative partnerships.
  • Flexibility to attend some programs, events and conferences scheduled outside of standard university hours of operation, including evenings and weekends.
  • Limited off-campus travel required.
  • Proven experience and demonstrated knowledge in the development, implementation and facilitation of educational programs related to equity, inclusion and diversity, in social justice organizations, community settings, or post-secondary institutions preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication and facilitation skills, analytical thinking skills, and the ability to build rapport with students, staff, faculty and community partners.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for dealing in confidential and extremely sensitive situations with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to effectively execute directives, policies, and strategies, and the ability to make sound judgments and careful evaluations.
  • Excellent decision-making and problem solving skills.
