Job description

What you'll do

Combine seasoned strategic thinking, business acumen, and a visionary approach to marketing strategy to deepen customer engagement. Define, develop, execute, and direct BC Hydro’s marketing communications vision and strategy across all channels—including social media, digital, TV, radio, and print. Lead marketing and digital planning, corporate research, services, budgeting, and teams with a forward-thinking perspective.

Oversee the team managing BC Hydro’s largest customer and brand touchpoints, including websites, email, social media, and in-person activations at key events throughout the year. This position supervises 60 team members, several contractors, and five direct reports while managing a substantial budget. The team includes Integrated Marketing, Digital, Brand, Community/Education Programs, and Corporate Research functions.

Job specific accountabilities include:

  1. Oversee the development, enhancement, and maintenance of the BC Hydro brand and its related sub-brand.
  2. Develop an overarching integrated communications marketing plan for BC Hydro.
  3. Lead the development of brand building strategies for the BC Hydro and PowerSmart brands.
  4. Develop and implement an integrated communications marketing calendar that is 24/7/365, including both paid and owned strategies and tactics.
  5. Develop and implement integrated communications marketing strategies and build direct marketing channels and plans to reach existing customers for products and services.
  6. Partner with the Energy Management and Innovation team to deliver on brand awareness and business targets.
  7. Oversee and direct strategic, integrated brand advertising and marketing campaigns across all channels, focusing on increasing digital marketing components.
  8. Oversee the corporate research function, including digital analytics that collect and analyze market and brand insights.
  9. Ensure strategic stewardship of the BC Hydro major brand touchpoints.
  10. Provide strategic advice to other business groups on social media, digital communications, advertising, and brand strategy.
  11. Manage brand consistency by setting strategy, guidelines, and processes for employees, partners, and external stakeholders.
  12. Monitor external brand and communication trends to capitalize on emerging opportunities.
  13. Manage resources and budgets of the marketing unit, including bringing services in-house where possible.
  14. Represent BC Hydro in negotiations with suppliers and external partners.
  15. Build and enhance BC Hydro’s brand and reputation with employees, stakeholders, government, and communities.
  16. Influence organizational strategy and decision-making related to brands, social media, and digital strategy.
  17. Build strong relationships across departments to negotiate outcomes that support the BC Hydro brand.
  18. Demonstrate BC Hydro’s core values and steward the brand internally and externally.
  19. Develop and implement metrics to measure campaign success and overall brand health.
  20. Provide strategic and tactical advice for a consistent social media experience.
  21. Build a cohesive, multidisciplinary team and promote collaboration.
  22. Support employee development through clear expectations and feedback.
  23. Mentor team members to embody BC Hydro’s values and deliver solutions.
  24. Ensure team understanding of how their work contributes to broader business needs.
