Job summary

Aviso is seeking a Senior Manager, Data Governance Implementation to lead our Data Governance program and drive responsible AI initiatives. You will partner with Data & Analytics, business units, and technology teams to translate governance visions into actionable roadmaps and scalable capabilities.

This role emphasizes collaboration, change management, and regulatory compliance across the enterprise. As a leader, you will champion trusted data use, build governance standards, and optimize tools

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in IS/CS/Data Analytics or related field.
  • 8+ years in Data Governance/Data Management with leadership.
  • Experience implementing governance programs with Collibra or Purview.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and change management skills.
  • Fluent English; bilingual in French is an asset.

  • Design and Operationalize the Data Governance Framework: Develop and implement governance policies, standards, and frameworks.
  • Champion Customer Trust and Responsible Data Use: Embed ethical data use and privacy into governance practices.
  • Partner Across the Business: Collaborate with Data & Analytics, business units, and tech teams.
  • Enable AI Innovation: Establish governance for AI initiatives ensuring accuracy and transparency.

  • Develop Implementation Roadmaps: Create roadmaps for governance rollout aligned with priorities.
  • Build and Scale Capabilities: Implement governance tools like Collibra and processes for data cataloging.
  • Monitor and Report: Establish KPIs and report progress to leadership.
  • Stay Ahead: Track trends and regulatory requirements to enhance Aviso's governance framework.

The Opportunity

We're looking to fill an opening for a Senior Manager, Data Governance Implementation, to join our Technology Partners team.

Reporting to the Director, Data Governance, the Senior Manager, Data Governance Implementation is responsible for ensuring data is a strategic enabler for the organization while driving innovation responsibly. An experienced, dynamic, and visionary individual, you will play a pivotal role in translating our governance vision into actionable strategies and operational frameworks to lead the Future of Data Governance at Aviso.

What your day looks like
  • Design and Operationalize the Data Governance Framework: Develop and implement comprehensive data governance policies, standards, and frameworks that prioritize trusted, high‑quality data across the organization
  • Champion Customer Trust and Responsible Data Use: Embed principles of ethical data use and privacy into governance practices, ensuring our clients' trust is upheld in all data‑driven initiatives
  • Partner Across the Business: Collaborate with Data and Analytics teams, business units, and technology teams to embed governance principles that balance compliance, innovation, and operational needs
  • Enable AI Innovation: Support the responsible use of data in AI initiatives by establishing governance structures that ensure accuracy, transparency, and ethical considerations in AI models
  • Lead Change Management: Act as a catalyst for cultural change by driving adoption of data governance practices and empowering teams with the knowledge and tools to succeed
  • Establish Accountability: Define roles and responsibilities for data stewardship and ownership across the organization, fostering accountability for data quality, security, and compliance
  • Develop Implementation Roadmaps: Create and execute detailed roadmaps for rolling out governance initiatives, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities and timelines
  • Build and Scale Capabilities: Lead the implementation of key governance tools (e.g., Collibra), processes, and technologies to support data cataloging, metadata management, lineage tracking, and AI enablement
  • Monitor and Report: Establish metrics and KPIs to measure the effectiveness of governance efforts and provide regular updates to leadership on progress and outcomes
  • Stay Ahead: Keep up with emerging trends, regulatory requirements, and best practices in data governance and AI ethics to continuously enhance Aviso's governance framework
Requirements
Your experience and skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Data & Analytics or a related field
  • Advanced certifications in Data Governance, AI Governance, Privacy or Data Management (e.g., Collibra Ranger, DCAM, CDMP or AIGP certifications) are preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Data & Analytics or a related field, including at least 3 years in a leadership or senior management role
  • Demonstrated success implementing enterprise data governance programs
  • Hands‑on experience implementing data governance solutions, with specific expertise in Collibra, Microsoft Purview or similar tools
  • Experience with visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau and with cloud native or multi‑cloud architectures such (Azure/AWS)
  • Deep understanding of data management and governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA, DCAM) and best practices
  • Proven ability to implement enterprise data catalogs, data classification frameworks, business glossaries, and metadata management frameworks
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and change management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across business units
  • Ability to integrate compliance and regulatory requirements into the data & analytics lifecycle
  • Technical proficiency in data governance tools and platforms, with familiarity in integrating governance solutions into broader data ecosystems
  • Governance Tools: Hands‑on experience with data governance platforms like Collibra, Informatica, Microsoft Purview, Atlan, OneTrust, or similar tools, including implementation and operationalization
  • Data Governance Standards: Deep understanding of governance best practices, including data cataloging, metadata management, data lineage, AI model governance, and data quality frameworks
  • Cloud & Modern Data Platforms: Familiarity with cloud ecosystems (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern data architectures (e.g., data lakes, data warehouses, lakehouses, etc.)
  • Compliance Knowledge: Awareness of key regulatory requirements (e.g., PIPEDA, GDPR, CCPA) and their implications for data governance
  • Analytics & Reporting: Proficiency in data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) to communicate governance progress and outcomes effectively
  • As a visionary leader you have a proven ability to translate complex data governance concepts into clear, actionable strategies that align with business objectives
  • You are a collaborative partner who thrives on building strong relationships across technical and non‑technical teams, acting as a trusted advisor and driving cross‑functional collaboration
  • You have experience implementing governance practices that support the responsible use of AI, ensuring data integrity, fairness, and compliance
  • You excel at championing organizational change and leading initiatives that shift mindsets, embed new processes, and drive long‑term success
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of data privacy, records and information management and regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, PIPEDA, Law 25, etc.)
  • Experience developing enterprise data governance programs from the ground up and leading transformation efforts
  • Knowledge of technical concepts such as SQL, Python, DevOps, MLOps, Big Data, data pipelines, data warehousing, data visualization and data integration workflows
  • Experience working in Data Product focused organizations
  • Fluent communication skills in English are required and bilingual skills in French are an asset

This position is posted with an expected salary range of $115,000 - $135,000 CAD annually. Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate and the requirements of the position.
