Job description

As Sr. Manager, Credit Execution within Commercial Banking, Western Canada, you will play an integral role in expanding National Bank’s client portfolio across Western Canada. You will lead a team of underwriting professionals focused on growth and risk management, working closely with Commercial Account Managers, Associate Vice Presidents, and Credit Risk Management. Your expertise in commercial lending will significantly impact your team, colleagues, clients, and the Bank’s growth objectives.

Your Job :

  1. Lead and mentor Western Canada-based credit underwriters, developing key talent.
  2. Support the management and growth of an existing portfolio by assessing clients to ensure alignment with the Bank’s products, financing structures, and risk appetite.
  3. Collaborate on initial transaction analysis and deal structuring.
  4. Review and manage credit applications, ensuring high standards of financial analysis, credit structuring, and risk mitigation, while adhering to internal policies.
  5. Authorize complex credit applications when necessary.
  6. Assist underwriting teams in presenting credit applications and challenge them to develop financing scenarios that meet client needs and risk criteria.
  7. Coordinate discussions with Credit Risk Management.
  8. Monitor the loan portfolio to ensure compliance with Bank parameters.
  9. Work with Account Representatives and back-office staff to meet funding conditions.
  10. Support the Head of Credit Execution, Western Canada, in reviewing credit quality of the portfolio.

Your Team :

You will be part of a growing Commercial Banking team supporting clients with borrowing needs ranging from C$2MM to over C$20MM across diversified industries. Based in Calgary or Vancouver, the role offers a hybrid work environment with occasional travel for meetings.

Basic Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, economics, finance, or related field.
  • Professional designation(s) and/or advanced degree are assets.
  • 10+ years of related commercial banking experience.
  • Experience leading high-performing credit underwriting teams.
  • Strong commercial credit analysis skills and creative problem-solving ability.
  • Clear, persuasive credit writing skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with technical expertise and sound business judgment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration.
