Responsibilities

  • Lead the proposal, planning, and delivery of corporate insolvency services, including identifying strategic, operational, and financial challenges, recommending immediate stabilizing activities, providing operational and performance improvement advice, and addressing debt restructuring, refinancing, or recovery needs.
  • Lead data analysis, review accounting records, and develop financial models.
  • Execute formal and informal restructurings and administer formal insolvency appointments, including bankruptcies, proposals, receiverships, CCAAs, liquidations, etc.
  • Advise lenders, creditors, or shareholders through financial reviews, business turnarounds, restructurings, bankruptcies, and liquidations.
  • Develop relationships with special loan financiers, insolvency lawyers, business executives, etc.
  • Prepare and review all statutory documentation associated with the BIA, CCAA, Wind-Up Acts, Business Corporation Acts, etc.
  • Manage engagement planning, scheduling, project financials (budgets, WIP, timely billing, collection, variance recognition).
  • Identify innovative ways to deliver added value to stakeholders; ensure stakeholders’ needs are met and relationships grow.
  • Maintain high-quality control and apply specialized knowledge to anticipate, identify, and address issues or key risks relevant to businesses.
  • Network in the local business community, explore business development opportunities, and lead the preparation and delivery of competitive proposals to meet stakeholders’ needs.
  • Mentor, motivate, and coach team members towards professional and personal development by setting clear expectations, providing feedback, and conducting performance reviews.
  • Contribute to strategic and operational planning related to stakeholder and practice management, as well as the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes.
  • Maintain flexibility to travel as necessary.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Completion of a Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional (CIRP) certification and licensed Insolvency Trustee (LIT).
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is an asset.
  • 5+ years of insolvency experience, specifically in corporate restructuring.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act.
  • Strong business and practice development skills.
  • Proven people management, relationship-building, and leadership skills.
  • Strong strategic planning and conceptual thinking skills.
