What is the opportunity?
The Senior Manager, Controls & Governance, facilitates Personal Banking & Investment’s (PBI) adherence to all enterprise policies and standards, including the RBC Enterprise Internal Control Management Policy (ICMP) and the RBC Enterprise Internal Control Management Standard, enables risk and regulatory reporting for second line of defense (2LOD) and executive review, and acts as the Business Risk Manager for non-regulatory initiatives that horizontally impact the lines of business under PBI. This role applies extensive, in-depth knowledge, skills, and practices to perform additional complex assignments as required.
What will you do?
Controls
Is the Subject Matter Expert on the first line of defense (1LOD) requirements as outlined in the RBC Enterprise Internal Control Management Standard
Leads the annual review of all horizontal controls owned by PBI in the Enterprise Controls Registry
Facilitates Key Controls testing and monitoring for PBI horizontal controls with the Enterprise Controls Testing team
Acts as the Control Owner (delegate) for controls linked to the Business Unit/1LOD implementation of policies and standards published and owned by Enterprise Risk and other Enterprise level functional groups (e.g. HR)
Governance
Develops and provides the PBI Business Risk & Regulatory Governance Monthly Review (MBR) in addition to other reports as required
Minimizes potential issue slippage through the facilitation of monthly status reviews with all LOB and functional partners
Identifies and ensures adherence to business unit obligations as detailed within enterprise policies and standards
Acts as the Business Risk Manager for initiatives that horizontally impact PBI and fall within the Operational Risk taxonomy (including but not limited to Tax Risk, Fraud Risk, People Risk, IT Risk, etc.)
What do you need to succeed?
Must have:
5-7 years' relevant experience
University degree in business or equivalent
Understanding of the retail investment world (what they are, how they work, how they are regulated)
Understanding of the various issue management and control management standards and policies
Strategic thinking
Ability to work effectively in cross-functional environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Innovation mindset and strong work ethic
Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in financial services sector
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Inquisitive nature
Nice to have:
Understanding of RBC’s obligations with respect to the tax rules that impact clients
