Summary:

This position is responsible for managing the performance of a team of technical staff in an assigned function(s) of application support, development, and business system analysis. The incumbent works to ensure that resources are in place to identify and provide business application systems in support of assigned function(s). This individual will plan, coordinate, direct, and design IT-related activities of the organization, as well as provide administrative direction and support for daily operational activities of the department. The Manager will work closely with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization. This person will also define and implement IT policies, procedures, and best practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Sets a framework for the provision and support of solutions covering areas such as resourcing, business analysis, development standards, etc. Responsible for overseeing the effective use of strategic processes as they pertain to this group.
  • Negotiates IT project requirements (i.e. deadlines, budgets, resources, etc.).
  • Manages a team of IT professionals responsible for business analysis, system analysis, application configuration and coding.
  • Identifies individual and organizational developmental needs/career goals and ensures developmental efforts are put in place to support them.
  • Assigns individual employees and external resources to specific projects/assignments, balancing the needs of the individual with the needs of the organization.
  • Monitors and manages resource capacity levels to fulfill project resource requirements.
  • Staffs permanent vacant positions with support from HR/external placement firms.
  • Works closely and communicates effectively with the other areas of IT to help ensure the delivery of environments and resources required for projects, the successful implementation of projects, and effective support for installed applications.
  • Provides significant input into application life cycle decisions that impact the investment in, or retirement of applications and software tools used by the corporation.
  • Responsible for the interoperability of the IT strategic processes. Works with the other IT managers to ensure interoperability.
  • Ensures group adherence to defined problem escalation procedures.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in the field of computer science and/or 10 years related work experience.
  • Extensive application support experience.
  • Proven experience in IT systems development.
  • Excellent understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Strong understanding of human resource management principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of project management principles.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to conduct and direct research into IT issues and products as required.
  • Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
  • Ability to perform general mathematical calculations for the purpose of creating business cases, budgets, and so on.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Proven analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Exceptional customer service orientation.
  • Extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Experience with IFS or any Field Service Management software would be considered an asset.
