Job summary

Tangerine, Canada’s leading digital bank, seeks a Senior Manager, Software Development (Mobile Application) to lead a skilled team delivering wealth technology on mobile. You will report to the Head of Engineering, Wealth, and guide end-to-end design, architecture, and delivery across Kotlin/Android, Swift, Java, Angular, and cloud services.

You will mentor engineers, drive best practices, and align initiatives with regulatory expectations and enterprise architecture.

Qualifications

• 5+ years leading a software engineering team.
• 5+ years delivering secure internet/client facing enterprise solutions.
• Wealth management knowledge and understanding of client journeys.
• Hands-on experience in Kotlin, Android, Swift, Java, Angular and public cloud tech.
• Experience in building highly available software solutions.
• 3+ years leading agile teams and ceremonies.
• Designing REST APIs and HTTP protocols.
• Cybersecurity awareness for internet-facing apps.
• Understanding microservices and DevOps practices.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Bachelor degree or higher.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, Wealth. The Senior Manager of Engineering is responsible for providing leadership and direction on end-to-end technology design and implementation. Interacting with business and technology leaders across the Bank, the successful candidate will establish a dynamic strategy focused on utilizing tools and capabilities in innovative ways that are aligned to our enterprise architecture. The role requires a deep understanding of the technology. a passion for innovation, inspired leadership and drive for results, experience in large program technology delivery and superior organization & communication skills.

Some of the Key Accountabilities include:

• Manage the team that architects, develops, operates, and supports wealth management technology solutions with focus on mobile app development.
• Establish and maintain a sustainable and operational resilient team to support the execution of an ambitious roadmap focusing on client centric value delivery, on-time, on-budget with high quality and extensibility.
• With many years of technology experience, lead, coach and continuously advance the capabilities of the technology team ensuring we are identifying and building future technology skills & capabilities
• Champion the use of diverse technology, industry best practices and data analytics to continuously advance business capabilities
• Champion the thoughtful use of AI driven development tools, enabling development acceleration, while ensuring judgement and problem solving remain with the people.
• Clearly communicate and garner support for the technology vision & strategy to business and technology leaders
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with vendors through proactive management and governance practices.
• Provide technical expertise, guidance, advice and knowledge transfer to team members on all aspects of application development for assigned applications or technology.

Required Experience & Skills:

• 5+ years of experience leading a software engineering team, working with others to solve problems, sharing knowledge, grow and mentor developers
• 5+ years of experience producing secure internet / client facing enterprise solutions in a professional development environment
• Strong wealth management acumen, including an understanding of client journeys, investment products, regulatory expectations, and how technology enables scalable, secure, and client-centric wealth solutions
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in secure software solution design & development using Kotlin, Android Frameworks, Swift / iOS frameworks, Java, Angular and public cloud technologies
• 5+ years of hands-on experience operationalizing highly available software solutions
• 3+ years of experience leading agile development teams, and providing leadership in ceremonies such as backlog grooming and sprint planning
• Excel at designing and operationalizing software engineering processes to deliver high quality code
• Excellent understanding of HTTP protocol and REST-style API design patterns
• Good understanding in Cybersecurity in context of securing public Internet facing applications
• Strong working understanding of public cloud technologies (e.g. GCP, Azure, AWS)
• Good understanding of micro-services architectural pattern in context of business operating model
• Good understanding and avid proponent of DevOps practices
• Ability to work independently as well as in highly collaborative team environments
• Ability to do both short-term tactical and long-term strategic solutions / planning
• Ability to balance logical problem solving with innovative thinking
• Ability to contribute positively to team culture, with a focus on inclusion and diversity
• Ability to resolve conflicts and escalations
• Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills (in English)
• Bachelor or higher degree

Nice-to-have Skills:

• Front-end software development experience with Angular, and React
• Hands-on REST API design and development experience
• Understanding or certification with Canadian Securities Course
