About the job: Senior Mainframe z/OS System Programmer

Software International (SI) supplies technical talent to a variety of clients ranging from Fortune 100/500/1000 companies to small and mid-sized organizations in Canada/US.

We offer a Permanent or 12-month renewable contract as a Senior Mainframe z/OS System Programmer with our large consulting client, working on a long-term project for one of Canada's largest banks. This could lead to an indefinite contract or a permanent role.

Type: Permanent or Long Term Contract

Duration: 12 months to start + possible extensions or permanent position

Salary/Rate: approximately $150,000 - $200,000 as a permanent employee or $100 - $130/hr + C2C, depending on experience

Location: Remote, Toronto, ON, Canada

What you'll be doing

As a Sr. Mainframe z/OS System Programmer, you will provide technical direction and expertise to ensure stable, reliable environments for complex sharing initiatives, adhering to established controls, standards, policies, and procedures. You will collaborate with senior management, analyze business needs, and protect test environment integrity. Your role includes technical leadership, coordinating client and vendor relationships, and developing the team for professional growth.

How you'll succeed

• Technical Expertise: Review and analyze client software and requirements, install, upgrade, and customize ISV software tools in a multi-system z/OS mainframe environment, and keep software/hardware current.
• Effective Communication: Communicate across teams, document problem resolutions, participate in disaster recovery exercises, and maintain system readiness.
• Relationship Management: Collaborate with internal teams and vendors, build networks, and influence outcomes through strong communication skills.

Who you are

• Minimum 10 years of experience in Mainframe technology or system programming.
• Fluency with tools like z/OS, Parallel Sysplex, SMPE, RMF, SMF, WLM.
• Understanding of System z architecture, z/OSMF.
• Deep expertise in mainframe configuration and performance tuning.
