What you'll do

• Use Affirm’s proprietary and third-party data to develop machine learning models that predict default likelihood and support approval/decline decisions to meet business objectives
• Partner with platform and product engineering teams to build model training, decisioning, and monitoring systems
• Research innovative solutions and develop prototypes to advance credit decisioning at Affirm
• Implement and scale data pipelines, features, and algorithms for production models
• Collaborate with engineering, credit, and product teams to define requirements for new products

What we look for

• 6+ years of experience as a machine learning engineer; relevant PhD counts for up to 2 years of experience
• Experience developing scalable machine learning models from inception to impact
• Proficiency in machine learning techniques such as Generalized Linear Models, Gradient Boosting, Deep Learning, and Probabilistic Calibration
• Strong Python and SQL skills
• Experience with distributed systems like Spark or Ray
• Experience with open source tools such as scikit-learn, pandas, NumPy, XGBoost, PyTorch, Kubeflow
• Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and Airflow is a plus
• Excellent communication skills and ability to drive cross-functional requirements
• Persistence, patience, and a strong sense of responsibility

Employees typically start at the beginning of the pay range. Affirm offers a transparent pay structure based on location, experience, and skills. Compensation includes base pay, stipends for health, wellness, tech, benefits, and potential equity rewards.

Base pay range: $150,000 - $200,000 per year.

Work Environment

Affirm is a remote-first company. Most roles are remote, with occasional requirements to work from an office depending on the role. A limited number of roles are office-based.
