Job summary

West Coast Seniors Housing Management is seeking a Casual Cook 1 for the Comox Valley Seniors Village in Courtenay, BC. You will prepare nutritious meals for residents, guests, and staff, ensuring dietary needs and food safety standards are met.

Responsibilities include reviewing menus, food handling, daily temperature checks, inventory management, and supporting special diet requests. A strong team player with culinary training and relevant certifications is required.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent is required.
• Graduation from a recognized cooks training program or equivalent.
• Experience in large quantity food preparation, preferably healthcare.
• Knowledge of Provincial Food Premises regulations and Canada's Food Guide.
• Knowledge of special and therapeutic diets.
• Minimum 2-3 years culinary experience.
• Food Safe Level 1; Level 2 an asset.
• Red Seal preferred.
• Serving it Right an asset.
• Good sanitation knowledge.
• Some supervisory experience an asset.
• Vulnerable sector check per provincial guidelines.
• Creativity, attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with team and maintain professional relationships.
• Review menus and production sheets before preparing.
• Ensure proper food handling per regulations.
• Perform daily temperature checks and audits.
• Prepare meals for therapeutic or special diets.
• Coordinate workflow and supervise production staff.
• Manage ordering and inventory to minimize waste.
• Adhere to service times and budgets.
• Participate in planning special meals and staff orientation.
