Job summary

Neo Financial in Calgary, AB is hiring a Senior Legal Counsel to support corporate, regulatory, employment and privacy matters. You will draft and negotiate complex agreements, manage risk, and collaborate with product and business teams in a fast-paced fintech environment.

The role requires a law degree, legal designation in Alberta, and 10+ years of relevant experience, with preference for banking/fintech sector expertise and in-house experience. Equity ownership is part of the rewards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B) or Juris Doctor (J.D.).
• A member of, or eligible for membership in, the Law Society of Alberta.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in private practice or in-house with banking/financial services, regulatory, corporate/commercial, real estate financing, consumer protection, employment and/or privacy law.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical, clear and accurate legal advice on corporate/commercial, regulatory, employment and privacy matters.
• Draft, negotiate and review financing, partnership and customer-facing agreements, identifying legal and business risks.
• Anticipate and address legal issues to protect Neo and reduce exposure to risks.
• Draft internal policies and guidelines to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
• Support updates to customer-facing disclosures and agreements.
• Develop and maintain form agreements, contract management systems and databases.
• Implement processes for efficient contract negotiation operations.
• Conduct legal research and provide concise advice to internal stakeholders.
• Manage external counsel as required.
