The Role

Neo is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join our team in Calgary, AB. This role offers a unique opportunity to support various practice areas including corporate, commercial, regulatory, employment, and privacy matters. What you'll be doing :

  1. Providing practical, clear, and accurate legal advice across a broad range of practice areas including corporate, commercial, regulatory, employment, and privacy matters.
  2. Structuring, drafting, negotiating, and reviewing financing, partnership, and customer-facing agreements, while identifying legal and business risks and collaborating on solutions.
  3. Anticipating, elucidating, and addressing legal issues to protect Neo's interests and reduce legal risks.
  4. Drafting internal policies and guidelines to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  5. Supporting legal updates to customer disclosures and agreements.
  6. Developing and maintaining form agreements, contract management systems, and databases.
  7. Implementing efficient processes for contract negotiation operations.
  8. Conducting legal research and providing concise, fit-for-purpose legal advice in a timely manner.
  9. Managing external legal counsel as needed.

Who we are looking for :

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Law (L.LB) or Juris Doctor (J.D.).
  2. Member or eligible for membership in the Law Society of Alberta.
  3. Minimum of 5 years' experience in private practice or in-house, with expertise in banking, financial services, regulatory, corporate, real estate financing, consumer protection, employment, or privacy law.
  4. Preference for candidates with experience in banking, fintech, or highly regulated industries, and/or in-house legal experience.
  5. Proven strategic thinking and ability to provide concise analysis and recommendations.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with lawyers and non-lawyers.
  7. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
