Job description

Mammoet is currently seeking a seasoned Senior Legal Counsel to join our dynamic team reporting directly to the Global Head of Legal. This role is integral to our organization, providing expert legal advice on a range of issues, ensuring we always operate within the law. The ideal candidate will possess a strong business acumen, exceptional negotiation skills, and a deep understanding of corporate, commercial, labour and employment law.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Responsibilities (including but not limited to)

  • Provide expert legal support to management on all company-related matters.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures, as well as external regulations and laws.
  • Manage litigation and negotiate settlements.
  • Prepare and review legal documents including contracts, agreements, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide proactive advice to Human Resources on rights and obligations in labour and employment matters including assistance with preliminary dispute resolution and any subsequent litigation arising therefrom.
  • Develop legal strategies to protect the company’s rights and maintain its operations within the law.
  • Monitor and advise on laws and regulations affecting the company.
  • Conduct legal research and provide practical business-oriented legal advice.
  • Contribute to internal process improvement and the development and delivery of training.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Skills and Attributes for Success :

  • Positive attitude, adaptable, and a collaborative team player.
  • Comprehensive and in-depth understanding of applicable law, including corporate law, commercial law, labour / employment law, and industry-specific regulations.
  • Extensive experience in the effective management of external counsel.
  • Excellent legal research skills.
  • Clear and concise communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide sound legal analysis, exercise good business judgment, and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Practical problem solver who is self-motivated with a high degree of initiative.
  • Detail-oriented and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in dealing with regulatory bodies and government officials is an asset.
  • Bilingualism in French / English is an asset.

Qualifications :

  • Licensed to practice law in any Canadian Province.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience at a leading law firm and / or in-house at a sophisticated organization.
  • Law degree from an accredited law school.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant law and legal procedures.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage large workloads, and meet deadlines.
  • High degree of professional ethics, integrity, and gravitas.
