Reporting to the Manager Laboratory Services, the Senior Laboratory Assistant will work within their scope of professional practice in a team environment. The position will coordinate the functions of the Laboratory Assistants, supervise daily operations in the collection room and specimen processing/receiving area, and assist with Laboratory Assistants' duties to maintain a consistent flow of laboratory samples and reports. The Senior Laboratory Assistant is responsible for special projects, quality control (especially of point-of-care equipment), training and evaluating new Laboratory Assistants, maintaining and updating standard operating procedures, and supporting the development of quality systems within the laboratory.
Under the direction of the Manager Laboratory Services, the incumbent is responsible for assisting with operational functions of the laboratory. They will supervise Laboratory Assistants and other designated staff by scheduling, coordinating, prioritizing work, and assisting with staff coverage. The role includes participating in staff training, scheduling, onboarding, responding to staff and client requests, and assuming additional responsibilities in the absence of the Department Manager. The incumbent must ensure prompt and courteous customer service and that standards for technical efficiency, quality control, and compliance with Department of Health and government regulations are met.

The official languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English, and French. Applicants may submit their resumes in any of these languages. Fluency in more than one official language is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut, and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also assets.
