Job summary

Randstad Digital in Toronto, ON is seeking an experienced Senior Java Software Engineer to join our team on a 12-month contract, starting ASAP after onboarding. You will design, develop, and modernize core Capital Markets platforms, focusing on scalable microservices, JDK upgrades, and reducing technical debt.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on Java/backend development in an enterprise setting.
• Experience in Capital Markets (Equities, Fixed Income, Mortgages, or regulatory platforms).
• APIs, microservices, and automated testing practices.
• Experience with system upgrades, security remediation, and reducing technical debt.
• Familiarity with modern DevOps workflows (Git, CI/CD pipelines).

You'll focus on building scalable microservices, driving JDK upgrades, remediating technical debt, and ensuring high platform stability.

What You'll Do

• Build & Modernize: Design, develop, and support high-performance Java applications and integration APIs.
• Platform Health: Lead legacy system upgrades (JDK/libraries), resolve vulnerabilities, and optimize performance.
• Delivery & CI/CD: Write clean, testable code and deploy through automated CI/CD pipelines using Git.
• Collaborate & Support: Partner with project managers, business stakeholders, and infrastructure teams to resolve production issues and meet enterprise delivery standards.

Must have skills/experience/qualifications:

• 5+ years of hands-on Java / backend development experience in an enterprise setting.
• Proven experience in Capital Markets (Equities, Fixed Income, Mortgages, or regulatory platforms).
• Expertise with APIs, microservices, and automated testing practices.
• Experience with system upgrades, security remediation, and reducing technical debt.
• Familiarity with modern DevOps workflows (Git, CI/CD pipelines).

Nice to Have

• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS / Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with observability, monitoring frameworks, or AI-assisted development tools.
