Job description

About Rodan Energy

Rodan Energy is a North American leader in distributed energy resources and energy intelligence, enabling a more reliable, cost‑effective, and decarbonized grid. We partner with large energy users, utilities, and grid operators to design, finance, and operate high‑impact DER solutions—including asset optimization, demand response, metering, and power system engineering. We manage over 1,400 MW of flexible capacity across Ontario, NYISO, PJM, MISO, and AESO.

What Makes This Role Great

We are seeking an experienced Senior IT Systems Specialist to administer, maintain, and improve our IT and OT environment while providing reliable support to end users, partners, and customers. You will support networks, servers, cloud services, Microsoft 365, endpoint management, firewalls, remote access, backups, and IT assets across hybrid on‑premises and cloud platforms, with a focus on Azure, Intune, Entra ID, and Microsoft 365 administration. Beyond keeping systems stable and secure, you will automate routine tasks, maintain clear documentation, and contribute to infrastructure projects as the business grows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and maintain Microsoft Azure environments, including virtual machines, storage, networking, identity services, backups, and replication.
  • Administer and maintain Windows and Linux servers across a hybrid on‑premises and Azure environment, including provisioning, configuration, hardening, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Manage Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Intune, Entra ID, and related administrative controls.
  • Support hybrid infrastructure across on‑premises and cloud environments, including identity integration, server administration, endpoint management, and backup/disaster recovery platforms.
  • Help ensure IT infrastructure remains available, reliable, secure, and aligned with business needs.
  • Administer and maintain enterprise firewalls, remote access, VPN connectivity, network rules, routing, and related network security configurations.
  • Perform patching, updates, upgrades, and migrations for Azure resources, Microsoft 365 services, servers, endpoints, network equipment, and firewalls with minimal business disruption.
  • Follow and contribute to formal change management processes, ensuring infrastructure changes are properly reviewed, approved, documented, and communicated.
  • Manage server, network, endpoint, and IT asset lifecycle activities, including inventory accuracy, warranty tracking, documentation, and replacement planning.
  • Plan, scope, and deliver IT projects that improve infrastructure efficiency, cloud resource optimization, system reliability, endpoint management, and service delivery.
  • Assess infrastructure, cloud, network, and endpoint decisions with future growth, scalability, reliability, and supportability in mind.
  • Develop scripts using PowerShell, Bash, Azure CLI, or Python to automate system administration, reporting, configuration, and routine operational tasks.
  • Use AI‑enabled productivity and automation tools, such as Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, Power Automate, or similar platforms, to improve documentation, reporting, troubleshooting, and operational efficiency.
  • Identify and implement measurable continuous improvement opportunities that reduce manual effort, improve uptime, increase patch and configuration compliance, reduce recurring incidents, or strengthen audit readiness.
  • Maintain clear documentation for IT processes, system configurations, operational procedures, firewall rules, network diagrams, support runbooks, knowledge transfer materials, and standard operating procedures to reduce dependency on individual knowledge.
Security Administration & Compliance Support
  • Support secure configuration and administration of Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Conditional Access, Defender, and related Microsoft security controls.
  • Apply a security‑by‑design mindset, including secure‑by‑default configuration, least privilege access, identity governance, practical risk‑based decision‑making, and protection of sensitive systems and data.
  • Assist with identity and access management practices, including role‑based access, privileged access, access reviews, user lifecycle administration, and secure remote access.
  • Support vulnerability remediation activities by coordinating patching, configuration changes, and risk reduction across servers, endpoints, cloud services, and network infrastructure.
  • Review and triage system and security alerts within the scope of IT operations, escalating higher‑risk events to the appropriate internal or external security resources.
  • Support audit readiness and compliance documentation, including evidence collection, system configuration records, asset inventories, and change management records where applicable.
  • Contribute to secure technology practices by documenting procedures, maintaining accurate records, and providing practical security guidance to end users when needed.
End‑User, Partner & Customer Support
  • Provide technical support and guidance to end users, internal stakeholders, partners, and customers for hardware, software, network, cloud, Microsoft 365, endpoint, and secure remote access issues.
  • Support escalated incidents and service requests, working with the IT Support Specialist and other internal teams to resolve issues efficiently.
  • Own escalated incidents from triage through resolution, including stakeholder communication, troubleshooting coordination, documentation, root‑cause analysis, and follow‑up actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Assist with onboarding, access provisioning, device configuration, application support, and endpoint troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, vendors, partners, and customers to support technology initiatives, infrastructure improvements, and service delivery requirements.
  • Influence outcomes across cross‑functional teams by providing practical recommendations, explaining technical risks clearly, and helping stakeholders make informed technology decisions.
  • Provide technical guidance and support for strategic infrastructure, cloud, endpoint management, and operational improvement projects.
Key Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
  • 5 – 8+ years of experience in IT systems administration, cloud administration, infrastructure operations, networking, or senior‑level IT support.
  • 5+ years of hands‑on Linux server administration in a production enterprise environment, including configuration, hardening, and troubleshooting across distributions (e.g., Ubuntu, Oracle Linux). This is a firm requirement for this role.
  • Strong experience with Windows Server administration.
  • Proven experience administering Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Intune, Entra ID, and related administrative controls.
  • Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure administration, including virtual machines, storage, networking, identity services, backups, monitoring, and hybrid integration.
  • Experience supporting hybrid environments across on‑premises infrastructure, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, endpoint management, and backup/disaster recovery platforms.
  • Hands‑on experience administering enterprise firewalls, VPN connectivity, remote access, routing, network rules, and related infrastructure.
  • Managed enterprise network infrastructure, including switches, routers, VLANs, wireless access points, LAN/WAN environments, and related network connectivity services.
  • Experience with endpoint management, device configuration, patching, application deployment, compliance policies, and troubleshooting using Microsoft Intune or similar platforms.
  • Experience with server, network, endpoint, and IT asset maintenance, including patching, lifecycle management, documentation, inventory accuracy, and replacement planning.
  • Experience with scripting and automation using tools such as PowerShell, Bash, Azure CLI, or Python.
  • Ability to follow formal change management processes and maintain accurate technical documentation, support procedures, system configurations, and operational records.
  • Working awareness of OT/ICS environments and the need to balance availability, safety, security, and operational continuity in industrial technology settings.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, documentation, problem‑solving, prioritization, and attention‑to‑detail skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional certifications in relevant areas, such as Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, endpoint management, networking, cloud administration, or cybersecurity fundamentals.
  • Microsoft certifications such as Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft 365 Administrator, Endpoint Administrator Associate, or Security Administrator Associate.
  • Networking certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with automation and workflow optimization tools, including Microsoft Copilot Studio, Power Automate, or similar platforms.
  • Exposure to IT governance, risk management, compliance audits, evidence collection, or change management documentation.
  • Familiarity with NERC CIP, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, or other security and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience supporting OT/ICS environments, including the unique operational, availability, and security considerations associated with industrial technology systems.
  • Exposure to Microsoft Sentinel, SIEM platforms, XDR tools, or centralized logging for alert review, investigation support, and operational visibility.
  • Experience with multi‑cloud environments or cloud‑adjacent platforms.
  • Familiarity with Databricks, data platforms, or analytics environments.
Additional Requirements
  • This role may require occasional after‑hours or on‑call support for critical system events, planned maintenance, service interruptions, or urgent operational needs.
  • Work in a hybrid environment and attend the office or operational sites as required.
  • Participate in scheduled maintenance windows, system upgrades, and infrastructure change activities outside regular business hours when needed.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgment when handling sensitive business, technical, user, partner, or customer information.
  • Prioritize competing requests, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and support time‑sensitive operational issues.
