About The Role

Reporting to the Head of Governance and Operational Excellence, this person will play a pivotal role in various aspects of committee coordination across different domains during the ramp-up phase and beyond. Key responsibilities include coordination and preparation of committees within PowerCo and Volkswagen Group.

This is a flex hybrid model, requiring 2 days in the St. Thomas office, with flexibility as required based on the needs of the project and a possible eventual transition to full-time onsite.

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Investment Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordinating the release of investment proposals within PowerCo Canada, preparing committees for the release of investment budgets within the PowerCo Group and VW Group, and ensuring streamlined and effective processes while tracking budget dependencies. This role requires structural thinking, the ability to analyze complex requirements, and expertise in communicating and visualizing strategic and financial content. It offers an exciting opportunity to contribute significantly to our projects and work closely with international, diverse teams across various disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Investment committee: Define and implement a PowerCo Canada internal governance structure for investment expenditure, including running a regular investment committee with board members within PowerCo Canada, aligned with VW Group and PowerCo Group processes and regulations.
  2. Investment strategy: Identify and drive necessary committee decisions for PowerCo Canada in collaboration with senior management. Develop and execute strategic plans to achieve committee approval. Prepare high-level presentations and align with stakeholders including operations, strategy, finance, and procurement. Act as a subject matter expert for investment releases.
  3. Project and Investment Coordination: Oversee coordination of large-scale investments in plant infrastructure, such as machinery, automation systems, and facility upgrades. Ensure efficient use of capital investments aligned with growth objectives. Develop and edit high-impact presentations and documentation; organize and lead stakeholder alignment meetings.
  4. Cost Overview and Documentation: Maintain up-to-date cost overviews, ensure audit-proof documentation, and record decisions. Monitor progress and identify risks and opportunities to contribute to project success.
  5. Risk Management and Compliance: Assess and mitigate financial risks related to investments, ensuring compliance with company guidelines, regulations, environmental standards, and safety protocols.
  6. Policy Monitoring: Track changes in government policies or incentives, such as subsidies for clean energy or battery tech, that could impact investments.
  7. Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, serve as the primary contact for committee inquiries, and promote collaboration and communication.
  8. Organizational Setup: Assist in establishing the organizational unit, defining processes, standards, and guidelines.
  9. Continuous Improvement: Engage in ongoing learning to stay updated on best practices and industry trends, enhancing project management skills.
  10. Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational success.

What You Bring To The Team

  1. Graduate degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  2. 7+ years of experience in investment coordination, financial analysis, or related roles.
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office for financial presentations and reports.
  4. Strong structural thinking and organizational skills; ability to analyze complex financial data.
  5. Strategic, pragmatic thinking with a focus on project objectives.
  6. Highly collaborative, organized, detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple issues simultaneously.
  7. Self-motivated, results-oriented, with excellent interpersonal skills.
  8. Willingness to travel occasionally within Ontario and internationally (~10%).
  9. Flexibility in work hours to accommodate time zones with Europe.
  10. Experience in automotive or e-mobility industry is an asset; German language skills are a plus.
