Responsibilities
What your day will look like
Design
- Contribute technical expertise through design leadership on a variety of structural projects, including new-build and renovation projects in the ports and marine, industrial and institutional market segments.
- Prepare specifications and details for drawing production.
- Review designs, drawings, and specifications to ensure accuracy and conformance with applicable Codes and Standards.
- Investigate existing structures and prepare condition assessment reports.
- Review shop drawings and provide field services in design and construction.
- Develop and manage discipline and/or project budgets and schedules.
- Work with multi-discipline teams and coordinate structural scope with all aspects of the project.
Project Management
- Coordinate structural engineering team activities and support project managers/technical staff in delivering multidisciplinary projects.
- Support operating teams to facilitate productivity and workflow.
- Coordinate design team activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful completion.
- Coordinate with sub-consultants and clients.
Business Development
- Lead in providing quality client services, especially with commercial and industrial clients within the Facilities market.
- Expand existing Dillon services and cross-sell to new clients in the institutional, commercial, and industrial sectors.
- Contribute to proposals and explore new business opportunities.
- Business travel upon request.
Innovation
- Provide technical expertise for developing and implementing technical tools.
- Encourage innovation and contribute to innovative project solutions.
Learning & Development
- Commit to self-development and ongoing professional growth.
- Support the career development of junior staff through technical guidance, training, coaching, and mentoring.
- Participate actively in professional associations and committees to enhance Dillon’s corporate profile.
Qualifications
What you will need to succeed
- A degree in structural/civil engineering; a graduate degree is an asset.
- Licensed professional engineer in Newfoundland, Ontario, Nova Scotia, or New Brunswick.
- At least ten years of relevant experience in structural design, especially in marine and industrial markets.
- Proficient in design activities, including preliminary and detailed drawings, reports, and tendering.
- Strong knowledge of structural engineering Codes and Standards.
- Proficiency in STAAD Pro, Risa 3D, Structure Point, AutoCAD, Civil3D, Revit, and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent technical report and specification writing skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously at different stages.
Experience
- Experience in designing reinforced concrete, masonry, wood, and steel structures, with a preference for steel sheet pile wall experience.
- Experience with ports, marine infrastructure, industrial, commercial facilities, water/wastewater, and liquid containment structures.
- Construction contract administration experience is an asset.
