Job description

Senior Interior Designer

Alabaster Homes

The Alabaster Group of Companies encompasses Alabaster Homes, our multi‑family rental, strata and multiplex division, and Pavilion Cowork, our shared office space division. While our core business is real estate development and shared office space, we pride ourselves on being a team of community builders. Our passion for our work is evident in everything we do. As we continue to grow as a company, we are looking for a dynamic interior design professional to join our team.

Position Summary

This is a one‑year contract position, with the possibility of extension. As a Senior Interior Designer, you will take on more responsibility in the development and execution of design projects, collaborating closely with the head of department. You will lead design initiatives, manage project documentation, and help ensure projects meet expectations, timelines, and budgets. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced designer looking to further grow their career in a collaborative, dynamic environment.

Core Duties & Responsibilities
  • Work with the Director of Design on the design development process, from concept to construction, ensuring the design meets project objectives.
  • Provide detailed plans from initial schematic design through to construction documentation.
  • Conduct site visits and ensure quality control during the project’s execution working directly with our in‑house construction team.
  • Collaborate with team lead to ensure projects stay on track with design integrity, budget, and schedule.
  • Mentor and guide intermediate and junior designers in their professional development and design tasks.
  • Travel to Calgary, Alberta to our Pavilion office locations will be required periodically.
Who You Are

You are a highly experienced Senior Interior Designer who thrives at the intersection of design excellence, constructibility, and business strategy. You bring a strong point of view, balanced by practicality and collaboration, and you understand how thoughtful interior environments directly support how people work, connect and perform.

You are energized by creating spaces that are adaptable, brand‑driven and operationally efficient. You design with both end user and long‑term asset performance in mind, creating spaces that are visually compelling, durable and scalable across multiple locations. You are comfortable owning projects from early concept through construction and close‑out and you understand the realities of working within a real estate development company and being adept at aligning creative vision with budgets, schedules, codes and site conditions.

You are a confident communicator and mentor, able to lead design conversations with clients and guide junior designers with clarity and professionalism. You take pride in producing high‑quality documentation, anticipating issues before they arise, and contributing to a collaborative, solutions‑oriented team culture.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from a CIDA‑accredited institution.
  • 10+ years of professional interior design experience, preferably in a studio or similar design environment.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Photoshop; Vectorworks is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and design‑related software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to confidently present to clients and communicate design ideas effectively.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Exceptional visual presentation and design skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for occasional travel.
  • Solutions‑oriented approach with superior time management, multitasking and prioritization abilities.
  • Eligible to work in Canada (Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or valid working visa) required.
Total Compensation Package
  • Base annual compensation, with a range of $90,000.00 – $110,000.00 depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Vacation & time‑off package.
  • Extended health & dental benefits upon successful completion of a mandatory 3‑month probationary period.
How to Apply
  • Submit a resume with a brief cover letter to careers@alabasterhomes.ca along with a portfolio including both 2D and 3D renderings.
