Job summary

The City of Windsor is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel (Insurance) to join Legal Services & Risk Management. Reporting to the Deputy City Solicitor, you will provide comprehensive legal services across insurance and risk management, draft opinions, negotiate with insurers, and support council with legal guidance.

The ideal candidate holds a J.D./LL.B. and at least six years of post-call experience in insurance, corporate or municipal law, is in good standing, and proficient with Westlaw and MS

Qualifications

• JD/LLB or equivalent and good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
• Minimum six years of broad legal experience after call, with emphasis on insurance, personal injury, corporate or commercial law.
• Strong negotiation, written and verbal communication skills; ability to travel as needed.
• Familiarity with Westlaw, MS Office and municipal law concepts is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal services to the Corporation in insurance and risk matters.
• Administer the Corporation's insurance portfolio and ensure adequate coverage.
• Advise and draft opinions for City Council and CAO; attend meetings as required.
• Negotiate and draft corporate/commercial agreements; represent before courts or tribunals as needed.
• Support occupational health and safety duties under the Corporate program.
