Work Arrangements: Due to the nature of the work and operational requirements, this position will require full-time physical presence at the NRC work location identified.
We are looking for a Senior Instrumentation Technologist to support the Central Facility team of the Propulsion and Power Laboratory (PROPEL) of the Aerospace Research Centre. The selected candidate would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
The Senior Instrumentation Technologist is a highly autonomous and organized individual who excels in technical tasks, demonstrating solid problem-solving skills while effectively prioritizing tasks and optimizing processes in the field of instrumentation and controls, working closely and in coordination with other technical officers, engineers and researchers. The ideal candidate must possess extensive hands-on technical expertise in programmable logic controllers (PLCs), Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), and industrial communications protocols (e.g., ControlNet, DeviceNet, Modbus, EthernetIP, etc.) to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and ensure reliability of a cutting-edge industrial environment with minimal supervision. Familiarity with LabVIEW and data acquisition systems is a plus.
You will be specifically responsible for installing, configuring, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting instrumentation and control systems for the compression, treatment, and distribution of air, fuels, and cooling media (water) for testing aircraft engines and aerospace components. Your tasks will be done in a team-centric approach with the Central Facility Instrumentation Team and its Operations Group.
You will also be expected to use your extensive technical expertise to perform complex technical work with complete autonomy, occasionally support the facility operations team in operational activities as well as prepare technical reports, progress reports, and technical drawings. Additionally, you will be responsible for calibrating critical and non-critical instruments in accordance with existing procedures and quality system work instructions based on the NRC Aerospace ISO-9001. Some administrative work for procurement and supplier management is to be expected.
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
Diploma from a three-year post-secondary Engineering Technology program or an Applied Science Technology program in electrical engineering, electronics or in instrumentation. A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Automation or Process Control Engineering combined with relevant experience will also be considered. A combination of education and experience may also be considered.
