Job Description
The Information Management Specialist will support the development of the Enterprise Data Governance Program, focusing on the creation of enterprise-wide data standards, policies, and guidelines.
This role is critical to enabling consistent and interoperable data management practices across the organization, ensuring compliance with recognized standards, and supporting the development of enterprise data products such.
The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in data governance, metadata management, classification, and enterprise information management frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert knowledge of information management best practices, approaches, and trends for both structured and unstructured data.
- Draft and organize enterprise-ready policy instruments (policies, standards, guidelines, procedures) to support enterprise data products and align with the Enterprise Data Strategy.
- Conduct business analyses to establish information management needs, including technical requirements for data capture, transformation, integration, and lifecycle management.
- Support classification and stewardship of Critical and Enterprise-Critical Data Elements (CDEs/ECDEs), including metadata and data quality requirements.
- Develop data classification schemes, metadata schemas, standards, and management protocols to ensure data consistency and interoperability across the enterprise.
- Apply data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK), lifecycle principles, and metadata management practices to enterprise data management initiatives.
- Collaborate with stakeholders (developers, data architects, business analysts, business intelligence specialists, and others) to define and implement data requirements.
- Provide expertise on recognized international standards in enterprise information management, recordkeeping, and data governance.
- Contribute to the development of canonical data models, ontologies, taxonomies, and controlled vocabularies for enterprise use.
- Provide advice, training, and awareness sessions on information management concepts, policies, and practices to diverse audiences.
- Support privacy, security, and information classification requirements for unstructured data applications.
- Participate in working groups, committees, and governance forums to advance enterprise data governance practices.
- Research and analyze legislation, policies, environmental scans, and business processes to inform data governance strategies.
- Develop and track performance measures for information management programs.
Must Haves
- Experience in developing business and records classification schemes using functional classification.
- Knowledge of Enterprise Content Management/Records and Document Management solutions.
- Strong background in business analysis for enterprise information management, including assessment of data capture, transformation, and use.
- Proven experience developing metadata schemas, standards, and management protocols.
- Knowledge of and experience applying national and international standards in enterprise information management and recordkeeping.
- Experience with controlled vocabularies, ontologies, taxonomies, canonical data models, and thesauri for enterprise use.
- Experience drafting enterprise-ready policy instruments (standards, guidelines, etc.) to support data governance and streamline data management.
- Ability to apply data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK) and data lifecycle management principles.
- Strong collaboration skills, with experience working across technical and business teams.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for drafting policies and presenting to diverse audiences.
Desirable Skills
- Experience in developing canonical data models and supporting data instruments such as standards, guidelines, and procedures.
- Experience leading or coordinating information management initiatives in government or large enterprise settings.
- Familiarity with privacy impact assessments (PIAs).
- Knowledge of information security and privacy classification requirements.
- Strong research, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
