Job summary

Government of Alberta is seeking a Senior Industry Development Officer in Edmonton to advance economic priorities within the Manufacturing and Aerospace team. You will conduct research, prepare strategic briefings, coordinate stakeholder engagement, and provide industry intelligence to inform policy and investment decisions.

Qualifications

  • Proven leadership experience managing and coaching technical or professional staff.

Responsibilities

  • Research, analyze, and evaluate economic, industry, and business information to support strategic decision-making.
  • Prepare briefing materials, action requests, reports, and recommendations for senior government leaders.
  • Conduct environmental scans and monitor emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges affecting Alberta's priority sectors.
  • Build and maintain relationships with industry stakeholders, municipalities, associations, post-secondary institutions, and government partners.
  • Support stakeholder engagement initiatives and help facilitate collaborative industry development activities.
  • Develop and maintain information management tools, databases, and industry intelligence resources.
  • Provide information on government supports, programs, and funding opportunities available to Alberta businesses.
  • Contribute to policies, strategies, and initiatives that support economic growth, investment attraction, and job creation.

As a Senior Industry Development Officer, you will play a key role in advancing Alberta's economic priorities by supporting the Manufacturing and Aerospace team within the Industry Relations Unit. You will conduct research and analysis, develop strategic briefings and reports, coordinate stakeholder engagement activities, and provide industry intelligence that informs policy, program, and investment decision

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Research, analyze, and evaluate economic, industry, and business information to support strategic decision-making.
  • Prepare briefing materials, action requests, reports, and recommendations for senior government leaders.

Qualifications

A university degree in Business, Economics, Arts, Public Administration, Political Science, or a related field. Equivalencies will be considered.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Proven leadership experience managing and coaching technical or professional staff is required.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Economic development, industry development, investment attraction, or related areas.
  • Research, analysis, and preparation of reports, briefings, or recommendations.
  • Stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
  • Environmental scanning and industry intelligence gathering.
  • Project coordination and information management.
  • Working with diverse partners and stakeholders in a collaborative environment.

Assets

  • Knowledge of Alberta's economy and priority industry sectors.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, aerospace, or industrial economic development initiatives.
  • Knowledge of government programs and services supporting businesses, entrepreneurs, and investment attraction.
  • Experience preparing executive briefing materials.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and database management tools

One permanent full time working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday based out of Edmonton.
