Job summary

Imperial Oil is seeking a Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join our Edmonton team. You will lead instrumentation and controls activities from concept to commissioning, applying expertise in PLC/DCS programming, instrumentation design and lifecycle management.

The role emphasizes hands-on engineering, mentoring, and ensuring compliance with industry codes. You will collaborate with Operations, Maintenance and Reliability teams to optimize plant performance and safety.

Qualifications

Engineering degree with P.Eng designation and 10+ years in instrumentation or controls.
Experience with DCS/PLC/SCADA and process automation.
Familiar with multiple control systems: DeltaV, Experion, Centum, 800xA, Rockwell/Siemens/Schneider.
Strong English communication; field experience in oil and gas or petrochemicals preferred.

Responsibilities

Design, specify, deploy and sustain field instrumentation and networks.
Provide troubleshooting and technical support for instrumentation across the plant.
Lead obsolescence and lifecycle management of instrumentation systems.
Develop and qualify technology specifications and prequalifications.
Lead MOC development and implement technical worksheets.
Ensure SIS/SIF performance metrics and drive corrective actions.
