The Senior Human Resources Coordinator will provide strategic and operational HR support to the Fort Alexander Health Center, ensuring compliance with employment legislation, policies, and best practices. This role requires a proactive approach to HR management, balancing advisory responsibilities with hands-on execution of HR functions. The Senior HR Coordinator will act as a trusted resource for managers and employees, providing guidance on HR policies, employee relations, and organizational development initiatives.
Reports To: HR Director (Sagkeeng First Nation)
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the development and implementation of HR initiatives, policies, and systems to align with organizational goals and legal requirements.
- Provide expert advice to managers and employees of the Health Centre on HR policies, employment legislation, and workplace best practices.
- Manage the hiring process for the Health Centre, including job postings, interview coordination, candidate evaluation, reference checks, and preparing employment offers and contracts.
- Oversee onboarding and orientation programs to ensure a smooth transition for new employees.
- Conduct workplace investigations and support managers in handling employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, performance management, and disciplinary processes.
- Advise management on provincial employment standards and other relevant legislation, ensuring legal compliance. Provide insight into federal employment legislation as needed.
- Maintain employee records and ensure compliance with confidentiality and data protection policies.
- Support performance management processes, including coaching managers on best practices for employee development.
- Monitor and address attendance management and leave requests, ensuring policy consistency.
- Lead HR policy updates and implementation in collaboration with the HR Director.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of an HRIS system.
- Provide training and development opportunities for staff and management on HR-related topics.
- Conduct exit interviews and analyze trends to inform retention strategies.

- Qualifications & Experience:
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience, including advisory or management roles.
- Strong understanding of provincial employment legislation; knowledge of federal employment legislation is an asset.
- Experience conducting workplace investigations and managing employee relations issues.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement HR policies and procedures.
- Experience with recruitment, onboarding, and performance management.
- Knowledge of UKG HRIS and experience supporting HR system implementations is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism.
- Experience working with First Nations organizations or communities is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and HR-related software.
