Job description

The Senior Human Resources Coordinator will provide strategic and operational HR support to the Fort Alexander Health Center, ensuring compliance with employment legislation, policies, and best practices. This role requires a proactive approach to HR management, balancing advisory responsibilities with hands-on execution of HR functions. The Senior HR Coordinator will act as a trusted resource for managers and employees, providing guidance on HR policies, employee relations, and organizational development initiatives.

Reports To: HR Director (Sagkeeng First Nation)

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support the development and implementation of HR initiatives, policies, and systems to align with organizational goals and legal requirements.
  2. Provide expert advice to managers and employees of the Health Centre on HR policies, employment legislation, and workplace best practices.
  3. Manage the hiring process for the Health Centre, including job postings, interview coordination, candidate evaluation, reference checks, and preparing employment offers and contracts.
  4. Oversee onboarding and orientation programs to ensure a smooth transition for new employees.
  5. Conduct workplace investigations and support managers in handling employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, performance management, and disciplinary processes.
  6. Advise management on provincial employment standards and other relevant legislation, ensuring legal compliance. Provide insight into federal employment legislation as needed.
  7. Maintain employee records and ensure compliance with confidentiality and data protection policies.
  8. Support performance management processes, including coaching managers on best practices for employee development.
  9. Monitor and address attendance management and leave requests, ensuring policy consistency.
  10. Lead HR policy updates and implementation in collaboration with the HR Director.
  11. Support the implementation and maintenance of an HRIS system.
  12. Provide training and development opportunities for staff and management on HR-related topics.
  13. Conduct exit interviews and analyze trends to inform retention strategies.
  14. Other duties as assigned.
  15. Qualifications & Experience:
  16. Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  17. Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience, including advisory or management roles.
  18. Strong understanding of provincial employment legislation; knowledge of federal employment legislation is an asset.
  19. Experience conducting workplace investigations and managing employee relations issues.
  20. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement HR policies and procedures.
  21. Experience with recruitment, onboarding, and performance management.
  22. Knowledge of UKG HRIS and experience supporting HR system implementations is an asset.
  23. Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism.
  24. Experience working with First Nations organizations or communities is an asset.
  25. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and HR-related software.
