Job Description Summary

The Senior Human Factors Engineer (HFE) leads teams and engages in complex planning and application responsibilities that design or modify tasks, work environment, and plant interfaces based on human characteristics, capabilities, and limitations. This results in human error prevention and mitigation, as well as human performance optimization to perform operations, maintenance, inspection, and test activities for existing nuclear plants and next-generation reactors. Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Apply in-depth specialized knowledge in HFE to technical strategy, resourcing, and planning to develop quality and timely human-centric products.
  • Develop, mentor, and conduct the overall HFE program plan, including system and plant operational functional requirements analysis, functional allocation, task analyses for displays, controls, and other job support aids, as well as testing and validation for procedures and operator training programs.
  • Represent HFE concerns and principles with internal and external customers, suppliers, partners, licensing, and regulatory authorities on technical issues.
  • Provide expert consideration of system reliability, availability, and maintainability.
  • Ensure the delivery of on-time, quality engineering documentation from a broad team, complying with contract requirements, business procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Use high-level judgment to analyze problems, develop solutions, and make decisions on complex tasks and challenges.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing to ask pertinent questions, convey priorities, and share complex concepts clearly.
  • Lead or be a valuable member of cross-functional teams with high technical and programmatic complexity and tight schedules.
  • Maintain honesty and integrity in all professional interactions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Factors, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 4 years of human factors experience in the nuclear industry.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Work two days onsite a week in the Markham office.

Desired Characteristics:

  • M.S. or PhD Degree in Human Factors, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the U.S. or Canada.
  • 10+ years’ experience in the nuclear industry, including emergency procedures, operator training, and regulatory reviews.
  • Experience as a licensed/certified reactor operator is highly desirable.
  • Professional Engineering Designation in Ontario.

GE will only employ those authorized to work in Canada. This position requires access to information subject to U.S. Export Control Laws, and citizenship from approved countries is necessary unless specific authorization is obtained.

Legal authorization to work in Canada is required, and employment is contingent upon background checks. The drug screen is not required if based in Canada.
