Position Summary :

This dynamic Senior Manager, Human Resources role, provides human resources generalist support to our Canadian unit of Toronto (YYZ) in specific areas of performance management, compensation & benefits, labour relations, worker’s compensation and absence case management.

This position will operate out of our Toronto unit located at 2498 Britannia Road East, Mississauga, ON L5P 1A2 . On the grounds of the Toronto Pearson Airport.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Provides HR Generalist support to the Toronto client groups and their staff by providing and managing all HR programs
  • Acts as a HR business partner to client group by developing and implementing HR strategies; assists with re-organizations and restructuring strategies
  • Provides full-cycle talent support; provides performance planning and performance management support
  • Educates managers on HR policy and compliance requirements along with interpretation of the collective agreement of all of the units
  • Manages employee relations issues; manages retention strategy and termination process, including exit interviews
  • Handles all legal compliance and litigation issues, interfaces with legal team
  • Responsible for implementing training initiatives (e.g. competency training, setting goals and objectives)
  • Advises managers and employees on immigration issues including visas, permanent residence processes and company policy; coordinates work visa sponsorship and ensures maintenance of proper work authorizations
  • Conducts new hire orientation and provides on-boarding support
  • Assists managers with drafting position approval requests, salary adjustment requests and supporting documents for approval
  • Ensures all HR best practices, procedures are followed
  • Leads the Absence Case Management process regarding employee’s sick leaves and Worker’s Compensation issues
  • Strong administrative skills are required
  • Some data entry into our HRIS system (Workday) is required for any employee changes and new hire entry for our unionized workforce

Education :

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university required. Advanced degree preferred.

Work Experience :

  • At least 7 years experience in progressively responsible human resource roles; and at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Experience working in transportation, hospitality, manufacturing or food service environment highly desirable.
  • Previous experience working as a Human Resources Manager in a highly unionized environment

Job Skills :

  • Bilingual in both written and spoken French and English is an asset
  • Candidate must be knowledgeable in both Federal and Provincial employment law (Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Nova Scotia)
  • Experience handling immigration and work authorization matters in a business environment highly desirable
