Division Overview

The People and Equity Division manages key functions within a complex, multi-site environment, supporting approximately 42,000 employees delivering essential services.

Role Summary

The Senior HR Consultant (Labour Relations) provides advice and support to management, manages grievance processes, and offers guidance on collective agreements, investigations, disciplinary actions, and employment legislation.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide expert consultation on employee and labour relations, including collective agreements and legislation.
  2. Conduct grievance investigations, manage hearings and arbitrations, and investigate legal infringements.
  3. Assist in collective bargaining, negotiations, and policy development.
  4. Mentor staff, develop recommendations, and ensure quality service delivery.
  5. Represent the Employee Relations team on various initiatives and committees.
  6. Develop and deliver labour relations training and ensure compliance with agreements and laws.
  7. Develop work objectives aligned with division goals.
  8. Travel to different locations within Toronto as needed.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education, CHRP, MIR, JD/LLB, or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive labour relations experience, including grievances, bargaining, and dispute resolution.
  • Proven ability to interpret and administer collective agreements.
  • Strong supervisory, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of employment laws and legislation.
  • Ability to travel within Toronto.
  • Experience with construction trades is an asset.
