Job description

SRK Consulting is an independent, international consulting practice, providing globally integrated consulting services to the international mining and metals sector.

We are seeking a Senior Geotechnical/Rock Mechanics Engineer (Underground).

Description of Responsibilities:

Our team interacts regularly with our other technical groups (structural geology, geology, hydrogeology, mining and geo-environmental), creating substantial opportunity for cross-discipline learning and working on a wide range of project types. Our intention is to develop and retain strong, experienced technical consultants while developing and applying pragmatic, fit-for-purpose approaches and solutions to a full range of project sizes and requirements.

The successful candidate will consult on projects for North American and international clients, which will require travel. Assignments will include providing expertise and applying rock mechanics principles to predominantly underground and some surface mine design issues. This work will involve full project scopes from conceptual studies to the detailed design and construction stage, operational support, as well as to the mine closure stage, liaising with other technical specialists as required. The position will include preparing proposals, participating in marketing efforts and developing and leading project teams.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 7-10 years of relevant experience; operating mine and previous consulting experience is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in 3D geological modelling software.
  • Proficiency in some 2D/3D geotechnical numerical modeling skills.
  • Substantial practical experience in geotechnical logging/evaluation, including the development and management of geotechnical field evaluation programs.
  • Hydrogeology experience considered an asset.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.
  • Demonstrated team leadership and project management experience.
  • Professional registration or eligibility to obtain it.

As a Senior Consultant, the successful candidate will be expected to create and maintain client relationships and work in a team environment. Strong communication skills and interpersonal capabilities are essential.

This position involves working in multi-disciplinary teams on a range of projects both nationally and overseas; international travel may form a significant part of the role.

In return for considering a future with us, we offer:

  • An attractive compensation package.
  • Diversity of projects and clients within a non-hierarchical consultancy environment.
  • Opportunity to purchase shares in the company; the SRK Group is an independent group, owned by its employees.
