Senior Geotechnical/Rock Mechanics Engineer (Underground) - Sudbury, ON, Canada

SRK Consulting is an independent, international consulting practice providing globally integrated services to the mining and metals sector.

We are seeking a Senior Geotechnical/Rock Mechanics Engineer (Underground).

Description of Responsibilities

Our team collaborates with various technical groups, including structural geology, hydrogeology, and environmental specialists, offering opportunities for cross-disciplinary learning. We aim to develop experienced technical consultants and deliver pragmatic, fit-for-purpose solutions across diverse project sizes and requirements.

The successful candidate will consult on projects for North American and international clients, requiring travel. Responsibilities include applying rock mechanics principles to underground and surface mine design, from conceptual studies through detailed design, construction, operational support, and mine closure. The role involves preparing proposals, marketing, and leading project teams.

Essential Requirements
  1. A degree in geological, mining, or geotechnical engineering.
  2. 7-10 years of relevant experience; operating mine and consulting experience is advantageous.
  3. Proficiency in 3D geological modeling software.
  4. Experience with 2D/3D geotechnical numerical modeling.
  5. Practical experience in geotechnical logging and evaluation, including managing field evaluation programs.
  6. Hydrogeology experience is a plus.
  7. Strong communication and reporting skills.
  8. Leadership and project management experience.
  9. Professional registration or eligibility to obtain it.

The role requires creating and maintaining client relationships, teamwork, and strong interpersonal skills. International travel may be involved.
