Overview

Thurber has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Edmonton, Alberta.

Thurber is a specialized consulting firm with a focus on geotechnical engineering. Our project work includes transportation, large and small infrastructure, natural hazards, development and more. We undertake challenging assignments that can include steep terrain, deep foundations, compressible soils, landslides, contamination, or other complications.

As our Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will work on varied projects and develop your skills with guidance and mentorship from our senior team.

Responsibilities

  • Providing exemplary service to Thurber’s clients;
  • Project management of geotechnical investigation and design assignments including responsibility for schedule, quality, safety, and cost control;
  • Design consultation with clients;
  • Conducting geotechnical analysis and preparing reports;
  • Training and mentoring more junior staff;
  • Providing construction stage support to clients and contractors;
  • Preparing technical and cost proposals;
  • Supporting and fostering a positive safety culture and environment; and,
  • Supporting business development initiatives and working with other senior staff throughout the company to develop new business.

Qualifications and Assets

  • Motivated team player with strong technical, business, and interpersonal skills;
  • Completion of a Graduate Degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering;
  • A minimum of 10 years of consulting experience, preferably in the Alberta market;
  • Knowledge and working experience with applicable regulations, codes, and guidelines;
  • Demonstrated project management skills;
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills;
  • Demonstrated client liaison and business development skills;
  • Experience working with or managing multi-disciplinary project teams;
  • Licensed member (P.Eng.) with APEGA; and,
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license is required.
