Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for projects across Canada. The role involves leading the design of tailings management projects and serving as Engineer of Record. Candidates should have at least 8 years of experience in the tailings and mine waste sector and preferably a Master’s degree in engineering.

AECOM offers comprehensive benefits and a competitive salary range of CAD 120,000 to CAD 200,000 per year.

Job description

Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Location: Canada (any AECOM Canadian office).

Job Description: Lead tailings dam design and serve as Engineer of Record for tailings management projects across Canada and elsewhere.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the technical delivery of conceptual through detailed designs of mine waste management facilities (e.g., tailings dams, filtered stacks, co-disposal facilities, waste dumps) and water management facilities (e.g., mine water retention dams, seepage collection ponds).
  • Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) on tailings dams or similar embankment systems.
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to team members.
  • Perform independent technical reviews of engineering reports and designs.
  • Advise clients on engineering matters, including compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Participate actively in AECOM’s Technical Practice Group.
  • Partner with clients to develop long-term, sustainable solutions.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in the tailings and mine waste sector.
  • Experience serving as Engineer of Record for large tailings facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • 20+ years of progressive experience in tailings management, preferably within Canada.
  • Highly collaborative, with the ability to build strong working relationships across AECOM and with global project teams.
  • Proven experience leading and building multidisciplinary teams.
  • Bilingualism in French and English.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Additional Information

Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.

All newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment.

Compensation Range: CAD 120,000 – CAD 200,000 per year.
