Job summary

Seequent in Calgary is seeking a Senior Research Scientist to advance geomodelling research from concept through prototype to customer validation. You will prototype algorithms, validate workflows, and drive innovative solutions in collaboration with customers and internal teams.

The role requires 7+ years in research, a master’s or PhD with domain experience, and strong quantitative skills in AI, ML, and numerical analysis.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in research roles, including industry experience outside academia.
• Master's degree or equivalent with extensive domain experience, or PhD with relevant experience.
• Extensive geoscience experience in geochemistry, structural geology, prospectivity, exploration geology, mining geology, or geological modelling.
• Quantitative expertise in numerical analysis, optimization, probabilistic methods, AI, and ML.
• Strong planning skills and ability to coordinate multi-stakeholder activities.
• Business-minded with influence on product strategy and cross-team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Discover, research, prototype, and validate new geomodelling algorithms and workflows.
• Advance novel and efficient applications of algorithms to address geomodelling challenges.
• Champion innovation and promote best practices across projects and research areas.
• Apply geomodelling advancements to practical solutions and act as a technical advisor.
• Formulate benchmarks and case studies; present research to customers for feedback and improvements.
• Share knowledge through conferences, publications, and collaborations with academia and industry.
• Build relationships with academic and industry partners and contribute to industry standards.
