Job summary

BlackBerry is seeking a seasoned Functional Safety engineer to own the safety case for QNX products, coordinating across full lifecycle from concept to certification. You will perform rigorous safety analyses and define evidence for certification, interfacing with external assessors and guiding engineering on ASIL decisions.

You will partner with Tier 1 automotive customers and act across global teams to ensure safety and compliance, shaping standards and improving internal processes.

Qualifications

• Deep expertise in ISO 26262 and hands-on use of Part 6, Part 8, SEooC.
• Proven experience performing safety analyses (HARA, FMEA, FTA, DFA).
• End-to-end ownership of a safety case through certification or assessment.
• Direct collaboration with accredited assessors.
• Requirements management at scale using Jama or DOORS.
• Embedded C development background to evaluate ASIL-constrained implementations.
• Exceptional communication skills for assessor-facing documentation.

Responsibilities

• Own the functional safety case for QNX products across the lifecycle.
• Perform high‑rigor safety analyses (HARA, FMEA, FTA, DFA).
• Define and manage safety evidence for certification milestones.
• Serve as primary technical interface with external safety assessors.
• Advise engineering on ASIL-appropriate design decisions.
• Support customers and Tier 1 partners on SEooC integration and residual risk.
• Evaluate customer architectures and provide written safety guidance.
• Represent QNX in standards bodies and influence requirements.
• Drive continuous improvement of safety processes, templates, and tooling.
