Job summary

JOHNSON SERVICE GROUP in Calgary is seeking a seasoned Senior Business Analyst to lead requirements gathering, translate business needs into functional specifications, and liaise between stakeholders and technical teams for large-scale ESS initiatives.

You will drive epics, user stories, and backlog items within SCRUM and PM frameworks, leveraging Azure DevOps and cloud-based platforms. Strong communication and adaptability are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Business Administration, Engineering, Information Technology or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in business analysis or a related role.
• Experience on a product team that uses user stories, backlog management and sprints.
• Strong technical acumen with the ability to understand system architecture, APIs, data, data integrations etc.
• Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques, such as SQL, Excel, and data visualization software
• Experience with JavaScript and Python
• Experience with cloud web-based applications
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross functional teams and communicate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Adaptability and resilience to respond to evolving priorities and timelines
• Experience in both agile and waterfall delivery methodologies; with strong aptitude in sprints and ceremonies
• Establishing strong business and technical relationships to facilitate trust and collaboration across team members and partners
• Experience across large scale project implementation; in-house legacy applications, introduction of new technology etc.
• Experience with Azure DevOps

Responsibilities

• Lead stakeholder workshops to gather, document and validate business requirements and define ESS functionality scope
• Translate business need into clear and actionable functional requirements; acting as the functional liaison between business and technical team members; as well as vendor
• Manage epics, user stories, tasks and backlog as required, supporting SCRUM and Project Management with delivery
• Establish end-to-end process diagrams; outlining as-is and defining to-be to support the design and delivery of the ESS solution
• Identification of gaps, or opportunities for enhancements or efficiencies across product delivery
• Work with cross-functional teams; supporting and contributing to Quality Assurance, Technical Teams, Change Management etc.
• Support and validate vendor design documents, ensuring consistency and completeness across business requirements
• Support SIT/UAT testing, issue triage and root cause analysis during design / implementation
• Maintain comprehensive documentation across business requirements, functional specifications, traceability and change
• Lead solution validation sessions with key stakeholders; ensuring delivered functionality meets business need
• Analyze and report on data to identify metrics, KPIs and business insights across design and delivery
• Facilitate consensus across business requirements, priorities and decisions
• Provide expertise and guidance on industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies in the electrical utility sector.
• Support cross-functional organizational activities; training, communications
• Support the delivery of operational readiness and cutover planning
• Continue to support the ongoing design and development of the ESS product; ensuring the solution aligns with the evolving needs of the business and market.
