Svitla Systems Inc. is seeking a Senior Front End Developer with Matrix expertise for a full-time (40 hours/week) remote position in Canada or the USA. Our client provides a digital identity platform that allows individuals to securely own and manage their personal information online, creating a portable digital identity that they control. The platform offers features such as verifications from trusted entities, encrypted messaging, document sharing, and a digital wallet for managing digital assets.

The project involves building a next-generation digital identity platform, specifically rebuilding their messaging system using the Matrix protocol—an open, secure, and decentralized standard for real-time communication. The role requires a Principal Engineer to lead the front-end development, focusing on Matrix client features, usability, and future functionality across web and mobile.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering.
• 4+ years of hands-on experience with the Matrix protocol.
• Deep knowledge of Matrix client-server APIs and encryption mechanisms.
• Strong understanding of frontend frameworks like React, React Native, or similar.
• Proven UI/UX sensibility for creating polished user interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Build or contribute to Matrix clients (e.g., Element or custom solutions).
• Implement chat functionality using Matrix client-server API.
