Job summary

Kraken Robotics is hiring a Senior Firmware Developer to design, implement, and maintain embedded firmware for our marine sensor platforms. The role involves RTOS-based development, real-time control, and robust subsea communication interfaces, with cross-functional collaboration.

The position offers offshore/offsite field exposure and potential remote work in Canada. You will contribute to hardware-in-the-loop testing and documentation while supporting system integration and deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of embedded firmware development using C++ (bare-metal/RTOS).
• Experience with real-time systems and low-level hardware interaction.
• Version control with Git/GitLab.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and debug embedded firmware for microcontrollers and RTOS.
• Develop and optimize firmware for real-time control, navigation, telemetry, and data logging.
• Implement robust communication protocols (CAN, RS-485, Ethernet, UART, SPI, I2C) for subsea environments.
• Ensure firmware reliability under pressure/temperature/EMI in underwater settings.
• Collaborate with mechanical/electrical/software teams for integration and testing.
• Conduct hardware-in-the-loop testing using simulators and lab environments.
• Create technical documentation including design specs and test procedures.
• Occasionally participate in field deployments and sea trials for on-site support.
