Job summary

Manulife seeks a Senior Financial Analyst, Statutory Reporting to oversee NAIC regulatory reporting for US insurers, ensuring adherence to NAIC accounting and reporting mandates. The role collaborates with US Finance, Tax, Risk Based Capital and other business units to deliver accurate statements.

The position entails preparing monthly, quarterly and annual NAIC reports, coordinating with auditors, and ensuring asset valuations and report part codes meet NAIC requirements.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in investment accounting and knowledge of various financial products.
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel focused) and Power BI; university or advanced degree required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual NAIC reporting statements for internal users and partners.
  • Coordinate with Risk Based Capital analysts, US Finance, US Tax and business units.
  • Work with internal and external auditors to address questions and support Model Audit Rule compliance.
  • Ensure NAIC reporting codes and asset valuations meet NAIC requirements; liaise with front/middle offices for securities details.
  • Comply with the NAIC Accounting Practices and Procedures Manual requirements.

Job description

The Senior Financial Analyst, Statutory Reporting role is responsible for NAIC related regulatory reporting, and Manulife/John Hancock’s compliance with NAIC regulations for insurers. This opportunity will require you to focus on a critical accounting basis for all US based insurance companies to ensure that our organization is well placed to adhere to the NAIC’s accounting and reporting mandates.

Position Responsibilities
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual reporting statements for the NAIC, downstream business users, and varied internal business partners. Liaise with several Manulife/John Hancock internal customers including Risk Based Capital analysts, US Finance, US Tax, and varied business units.
  • Responsible to work with both internal and external auditors to field questions, provide insights, and adhere to Model Audit Rule requirements.
  • Ensure that the Securities Valuation Office of the NAIC requirements are met when it comes to the filing of new investment agreements as well as comply with the monthly Asset Valuation process.
  • Determine the NAIC report part codes to newly acquired securities. Coordinate with front and middle offices to acquire the details of the securities
  • Ensure adherence to the NAIC Accounting Practices and Procedures Manual requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years experience working in investment accounting and knowledge of various financial products.
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Experience with varied software tools such as Microsoft Office (Excel focused), Power BI, etc..
  • University or advanced degree
Preferred Qualifications
  • Recognized professional designation such as CFA, CA, CPA, etc.
  • Substantial experience in insurance financial reporting and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with the SimCorp Dimension accounting platform.
  • Experience with Hyperion Essbase and other data/accounting tools.
  • Familiarity with NAIC regulations.

Salary range is expected to be between

$73,725.00 CAD - $122,875.00 CAD

Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
