As a Senior Financial Analyst, Accounting & Reconciliations , you are responsible for a range of functions associated with accounting and reconciliations. This includes monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analysis to support reporting and other requirements for the organization under the Financial Reporting and Compliance portfolio. The position has broad financial expertise and is expected to collaborate with, support, and contribute expertise across all the Corporate Services and Finance functions, in addition to the specific responsibilities of the Accounting & Reconciliations portfolio.

What will you do?

  • Ensure the accurate and timely execution of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Responsible for verifying the correctness and reasonableness of financial and statistical data in the general ledger.
  • Prepare journal entries, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting principles.
  • Reconcile and analyze assigned general ledger accounts monthly, ensuring they are accurate, complete, and comply with accounting policies and directives.
  • Support the preparation of the balance sheet, income statement, related statistical information, and other financial reports for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Prepare the lead sheets for the annual audit including collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Provide advice and input to management in the interpretation of financial and accounting policies, standards, and processes.
  • Document working processes and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships and partnerships with various internal and external stakeholders to support the organization.
  • Work with management and staff to ensure compliance with the Acts, Directives, Canada Revenue Agency, Public Sector Accounting Board, and Management Information System (MIS) standards within the portfolio.

What must you have?

  • Post-secondary degree in business administration, finance, health administration, economics, or relevant field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in accounting, reporting, and financial analysis in a medium or large-sized organization, preferably in health care.
  • Experience and proven ability in a matrixed reporting environment.
  • Experience in analyzing and interpreting large amounts of complex data, including financial and statistical data.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), including Not-for-Profit standards and Public Sector Accounting Standards, and Ontario Healthcare Reporting Standards (OHRS).
  • Knowledge of finance tools and systems available to support information reporting and analysis.
  • Experience and an in-depth understanding of a large, multi-dimensional accounting system (such as Great Plains Dynamics).
  • Strong analytical skills including ability to analyze and review data for anomalies, inaccuracies, and trends.
  • Knowledge of funding models and regulatory reporting requirements impacting the Ontario health sector.
  • Ability to present and explain financial data in a clear concise manner in order to provide financial analyses to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Advanced multi-tasking skills, with the ability to meet performance and service goals.

  • Professional Accounting (CPA) designation or enrollment preferred.
  • Knowledge of Ontario Health atHome services.
  • Familiarity with the issues and priorities of the health care sector and how these impact business practices financially.
  • Ability to speak French or another second language.
