Job Description:

The Senior Financial Analyst reviews and analyzes financial reports for assigned ministry units, assists with planning and budgeting, prepares projections, and conducts research as needed. This role also supervises, coaches, and mentors Financial Analysts on the Ontario Finance Team. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated professional with strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively and influence programs within The Salvation Army.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Analyze ministry unit financial statements, recommend improvements, and ensure compliance with Salvation Army policies and THQ standards.

  • Advise ministry units on financial systems and support new finance personnel with systems and reporting processes.

  • Act as a financial reporting resource, resolving complex accounting issues and supporting year-end closing and T3010A preparation.

  • Prepare reconciliations, complex journal entries, and review external funding and year-end audit reports for ministry units.

  • Monitor working capital reserves and assist ministry units in developing and maintaining reserve plans.

  • Lead and support ministry units in annual budget preparation, reviews, analysis, and submission to appropriate approval authorities.

  • Regularly analyze budget-to-actual results, updating forecasts and supporting the planning and coordination of assigned projects.

  • Supervise, coach, and direct Financial Analysts, ensuring collaboration with divisional and social mission staff.

  • Provide timely financial analysis and decision support for senior staff, support funding reports and requests, and oversee cash flow forecasting for ministry units.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree, with a major or concentration in accounting or finance. Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

  • Completion of the CPA accounting designation program.

  • Minimum of six years of prior related accounting/business work experience and working knowledge of software systems.

  • Self-motivated, disciplined, with strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.

  • Commitment to quality customer service and ability to read and modify complex text accurately.

  • Strong understanding of integrated, cross-functional system environments.

  • Advanced financial modeling and exceptional Excel skills.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and “out-of-box” thinking with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.

  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license, own vehicle, insurance, and clear driver’s abstract.

  • Willingness to support The Salvation Army’s mission and complete required background checks.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $66,831.48 to $83,539.35 with a maximum of $100,247.22.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
