Job Description

Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Finance, the Senior Financial Analyst supports the organization’s strategic objectives and plays a pivotal role in optimizing business efficiency. This position will also include some accounting functions.

Qualifications And Skills Required

  • University degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related program.
  • Canadian accounting designation (CPA).
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in Financial Reporting and Financial Planning and Analysis.
  • 3+ years of relevant Ontario Healthcare experience in financial reporting and business performance analysis is an asset.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Financial software, including hands-on experience with complex reconciliations, data analysis, formula development, and executive reporting.
  • Experience with Great Plains, Point Click Care, and payroll systems are an asset.
  • Experience with Business Automation tools and implementation is an asset.
  • Superior written and verbal communication/presentation skills and the ability to interact with senior executives and other cross divisional leaders in the organization.
  • Strong relationship-building and influencing skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in achieving organizational goals.
  • Strong financial acumen and expertise in business fundamentals, with the ability to extract, analyze, and succinctly present actionable insights to senior executives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, maintaining professionalism and a customer service mindset when interacting with internal clients and external partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and workflows in a fast-paced environment, with meticulous attention to detail and adherence to deadlines.
  • Experience in conducting research, data gathering, and presenting recommendations for process improvements to senior leadership.
  • Excellent project management skills, including testing, validation, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders or timely project completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare timely and accurate reporting and analysis for both internal and external stakeholders. Provide actionable insights to support strategic decision making.
  • Produce monthly accurate and reliable financial statements including consolidated Ministry of Health reconciliations and envelope balancing.
  • Analyze monthly/quarterly actual financial results to plan/forecast. Identifying the key business performance drivers, reasons for any variances and presenting conclusions and strategy.
  • Lead month-end and year end closing.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll general ledger imports.
  • Oversee and ensure all financial functions are accurately reconciled monthly.
  • Prepare and submit working papers and schedules for year-end audits. Participation in the co-ordination and planning of the annual audit.
  • Prepare and maintain organizational cashflows and cash positions.
  • Analyze and prepare annual budgets, collaborating with management and operations as necessary.
  • The timely analysis and communication of all one-time Ministry Funding to ensure compliance in the application of funding and any accompanying metrics or restrictions.
  • Prepare, validate, and submit Ministry and government reporting including but not limited to the staffing report, subsidy worksheet, MOH Annual Reconciliation and OHRS Management Information System report.
  • Identify and implement process improvements in financial reporting and analysis.
  • Lead assigned projects aimed at enhancing efficiency and accuracy in financial operations and the overall organization.
  • Assist in implementation of new software/systems.
  • Maintain strong financial internal controls and participate in developing improvements.
  • Review existing processes, systems, data and reporting to make recommendations for key improvements.
  • Prepare ad-hoc analysis and reports on a timely manner to queries from stakeholders, as required.
  • Indirectly supervise and mentor team members, motivating and leading by example.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
