The Senior Financial Analyst will assist operations in processing and analyzing financial data and reviews to drive financial performance and support our business partners. The candidate will also be responsible for setting up financial data analysis, assisting in the month-end result package, supporting the annual budget process, and quarterly forecasts.
As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will have the following accountabilities: This position will be located at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario, with flexibility for both remote and in-office work based on our hybrid work model.
Period End Close & Reporting (incl. Prepaids, Accruals, and Other Accounting)
- Executes period end closing activities and completes month-end close checklists.
- Gathers data and performs calculations for accrual and prepaid entries and other month-end journal entries.
- Reviews classification of expenses and capitalization of significant expenses.
- Generates necessary reports to facilitate period end close.
Account Reconciliations
- Gathers and reviews data related to the preparation of account and bank reconciliations.
- Prepares reconciliations and resolves unsupported variances that exceed thresholds.
- Prepares entries for posting related to reconciliations, write-offs, and adjustments.
- Gathers required data fields and compiles into standardized reports.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assists with the preparation of the annual budget.
- Prepares budget-to-actual variance analysis, providing explanations based on investigation and communication with operational staff.
- Responsible for preparing monthly forecasts for each facility in coordination with operational staff.
Management Reporting
- Prepares management reporting packages, including commentary and support queries for strategic analysis, variances, and KPIs.
- Generates standard and recurring management reports and collaborates with Finance Business Partners to provide insights and analysis.
Regulatory Reporting
- Gathers necessary information to prepare required regulatory reports based on regional requirements for assigned facilities.
- Ensures timely submission of government and regulatory reports.
Leadership
- Builds and maintains relationships with business unit operational staff and finance partners.
- Ensures adherence to prescribed accounting systems and procedures; assists with related issues.
- Leverages financial, business, and accounting knowledge to improve processes and create efficiencies.
- Coaches and supports Financial Analysts as needed.
- Contributes to special projects as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field.
- CPA Designation.
- 3-5 years of experience in operational and accounting areas; experience in healthcare preferred.
- Client-focused mindset.
- Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills; a good team player.
- Excellent organizational, computer, and analytical skills, with advanced Excel skills.
