POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Financial Analyst (SFA) has the overall responsibility for Financial Planning, Reporting and Analysis for one or more category teams.

As part of the Category Support to the Marketing Team:

The SFA will play a key role in the creation of a robust Fiscal Plan for the category team with well documented and executable underlying assumptions. The incumbent is required to perform monthly/quarterly financial reporting that tracks actual results vs. plan and prior year with explanations for key drivers and material variances. The incumbent will forecast the expected variance to the profit target on a monthly basis and support the category team in their effort to close any gaps to plan. The incumbent must have in depth understanding of all financial aspects in the P&L as well as thorough knowledge of key retail customers. This incumbent will be the key contact for all financial questions and analysis related to the category.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS SUMMARY

  • Take a proactive role in understanding key financial components in the P&L and be able to explain key drivers or causes for material changes in the financial results
  • Support key month-close and forecasting deliverables in the first half of each calendar month
  • Ensure assumptions on volume, pricing, trade, marketing spend and cost of goods sold are well understood, accurate and documented
  • Provide guidance for the overall financial management of the marketing team with respect to the formal Improvement Opportunity planning process
  • Provide category teams and category strategy groups with accurate and value-added financial analysis that will facilitate better financial and strategic business decisions
  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of financial trends by identifying and evaluating opportunities for optimizing category growth and profit
  • Ensure financial statements are accurate and represent the true sales and expense information based on latest knowledge of the business.
  • Prepare and present monthly financial reporting and analysis to the category teams and the finance group
  • Take ownership of identified incremental risks and opportunities (versus the latest forecast/plan) for the category team
  • Provide ad-hoc analysis and reporting as needed

Technology

  • Gain thorough understanding of Oracle, Spotfire Analytics, and Microsoft Excel and how to manipulate large databases
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities for maximizing growth and profitability in the business, as well as provide thorough financial support to Marketing team

Relationships

  • Understand customer needs between the business team, supply chain and finance and develop a balance to ensure all needs are serviced with the highest standards
  • Provide leadership by communicating openly and honestly

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University Degree in Business, preferably with Financial Designation or in process of acquiring a Financial Designation (CA/CGA/CMA)
  • 3-5 years of Financial Analyst experience
  • Experience in Tier 1 Packaged Goods company in food industry would be an asset
  • Strong business acumen & judgement
  • Sound presentation and communication skills are required in a cross-functional and team-oriented environment
  • Must be a self-starter
  • Must be a strong team player and be able to build relationships across the organization
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to ‘translate’ financial language effectively to all levels within the organization
  • Should be adaptable, flexible and agile to an ever-changing work environment
  • Able to work independently with minimal direction, but also be able to ask for direction when needed
  • Knowledge of current computer technologies (MS Office/ Oracle / Spotfire Analytics)
