Position Summary
The Senior Financial Analyst will be an integral member of the financial reporting team performing a range of professional accounting activities including analysis and reporting of organizational financial results, including assistance in the preparation of financial statements for the year-end audit. The Senior Financial Analyst will work autonomously to analyze financial results and work with Managers to interpret and present the financial impact of operational decisions as well as identify areas of process improvement by providing evidence-based information to execute decisions and monitor results. The Senior Financial Analyst will review processes and identify / implement changes as required to ensure efficient, timely and quality information reporting as well as a wide range of professional accounting activities.
Position Relationships
Reports to the Executive-Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Works closely with executive leadership team and management.
Position Responsibilities :
Month End and Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations and ensure that adjustments / corrections are made as necessary
- Review and analyze monthly financial and ensure its accuracy and compliance with Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS)
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial summaries for distribution to Senior Leadership explaining and analyzing material variances
Review, Analyze and Present Program and Business Unit Results
Prepare comparative analysis against budget and historical resultsIdentify key operating drivers and perform benchmarking analysisPresent findings at monthly / quarterly reviews with leadersWork integrally with managers to achieve higher levels of performance and improved patient care through focused use of strategic information, resource measurement and evidence-based decision-makingChampion action plans for meeting budget targets and developing forecastsExternal Reporting
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual Ministry reporting submissions for Hospital, Long-term Care and Primary CareOn an annual basis, prepare organizational external financial statements, and coordinate with departments to prepare the notes to the financial statements and supporting schedulesAssist in the preparation and filing of various returns to statutory agenciesBudget Development
Work with Vice-Presidents and managers to lead development of the annual capital and operating budgetAdvise, train and educate organizational staff at all levels regarding budgetary planning, information systems, Management Information Systems (MIS) standards and data qualityTreasury
Prepare and analyze monthly cash forecasting and provide recommendations to ensure the organization meets its key liquidity ratiosPrepare bank reconciliations and implement process improvements as necessaryInvestigate, analyze and resolve bank discrepanciesRecord weekly and daily bank activity in the general ledgerOther Duties
Research and prepare accounting briefing notes for complex accounting issuesInnovate new ways for data collection and analysisLearn and master Management Information Standards (MIS)Participating in special projects or committees as requiredIdentify opportunities for process improvement to help streamline current processesQualifications
Qualified Accountant (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) with 3-4 years post-qualification experience in financial analysis, reporting, month end close, process improvement and treasury related workExpertise in financial planning, budgeting and analysisExpertise in financial reporting and control managementDemonstrated in depth knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards for Not-for-profitsIn-depth understanding of the current healthcare funding models is desirable.Knowledge of MIS standards is desirableAdvanced MS Office skills– Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, OutlookAbilities
