Position: Senior Financial Analyst

Position Summary:

InPlay is a growing oil & gas exploration and production Company headquartered in downtown Calgary with operations focused in Central Alberta. We are looking to expand our team following a sizable property acquisition in our core area. We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Senior Financial Analyst to support management of the finance and accounting operations of our company. This role will be involved in a wide range of financial functions, including financial reporting, long-term incentive plan administration, internal controls, and support for external audits. The Company has plans for continued growth and this position will have ample opportunity for expanded job responsibilities and exposure. Reporting to the Controller, the ideal candidate brings deep financial acumen, attention to detail, and experience in the oil and gas sector.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare and maintain monthly financial reporting packages for internal requirements and reporting requirements to the Board of Directors.
  • Support quarterly and annual reporting processes, including MD&A and financial statement preparation
  • Assist in the preparation of board files, audit committee deliverables and scheduling of board meetings.
  • Assist in preparation of public and regulatory filings (e.g., press release, ESTMA, TIER, TSX, MIC, AIF)

Treasury and Accounting

  • Review daily bank entries and monthly bank reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reporting journal entries and accruals
  • Support in the monthly financial close process
  • Review and post accounts payable journal entries
  • Manage prepaid & inventory accounts

Audit and Internal Controls

  • Support the Controller in coordinating with external auditors
  • Support the Controller in evaluating the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls
  • Maintain and monitor internal control processes

Long-term Incentive Plan (“LTI”) Administration

  • Prepare and coordinate LTI grants and distributions
  • Coordinate share purchases and trust funding for distribution
  • Administer Solium and Odyssey platforms

Tax and Compliance

  • Assist in preparing income tax returns and support ongoing tax planning efforts
  • Prepare GST filings and ensure compliance with tax regulations

Special Projects and Analysis

  • Assist with ad hoc financial analysis and corporate finance projects
  • Support cross-functional teams with financial data and insights as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA designation
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting or financial reporting experience
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting standards and upstream oil & gas accounting/operations
  • Advanced Excel skills and analytical mindset
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
