Job description

As a locally based financial institution, Cambrian Credit Union is known for working within our community. Everything we do at Cambrian is guided by our five simple values: Integrity and Honesty; Member Focused; Competitive; Community Involvement; Innovative Spirit.

Cambrian Credit Union is seeking a Senior Financial Advisor to join our Wealth & Advisory Services team.

The Senior Financial Advisor (SFA) manages and grows an assigned portfolio of valued investors within the Aviso Wealth investment division. Working closely with Cambrian retail branches, small business and commercial account managers, and partner wealth advisors in an assigned region, the SFA consolidates investors’ external assets and delivers comprehensive advice and ongoing service.

The SFA is a senior advisor and experienced business developer who builds, manages, and grows member relationships. Using a focused member experience grounded in financial planning, the SFA provides specialized advice that helps members achieve their financial objectives.

The SFA provides expert strategies and solutions in retirement planning, wealth preservation, milestone and succession planning, and tax planning. The role also promotes Aviso Discretionary Asset Managed Solutions as the primary portfolio solution.

In the role of Senior Financial Advisor, you will:
  • Use a consultative approach and financial planning tools, including Conquest Planning, to create holistic plans and recommendations aligned with each member’s investment and financial goals.
  • Manage and grow an assigned portfolio serving members or households with investable assets generally exceeding $350,000 through regular contact, tailored advice, portfolio adjustments, and asset consolidation within Cambrian Wealth. Build external referrals through networking, marketing, centres of influence, and Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
  • Drive business development by partnering with retail and digital branches and business account managers to identify members’ investment and financial planning needs, generate banking opportunities, and promote Aviso’s self-serve digital wealth solutions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the economic and financial environment, market conditions, industry trends, legislation, and product platforms in an area subject to frequent change. Provide expertise to members with complex financial needs and circumstances, developing tailored analyses and plans to address their short-term and long-term financial requirements.
Position Summary
  • Conduct all advisory activities in accordance with Know Your Client, suitability, documentation, recordkeeping, privacy, anti-money laundering, conflict-of-interest, and other applicable Cambrian, Aviso, and regulatory requirements. Escalate concerns or exceptions through the appropriate channels.
  • Provide leadership in delivering service excellence to members throughout their interactions with Cambrian Credit Union, with accountability for advice quality, member outcomes, retention, referral development, and collaboration with internal partners.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the nature and level of the position, including providing support to the Vice-President, Wealth & Advisory Services, as required.
Your Education & Experience:
  • Post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate in business or commerce, or an equivalent combination of education and business experience.
  • Minimum of five years of investment advisory experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial products and investment markets available to Canadian investors.
  • Must hold, or be eligible to obtain upon hire, the CIRO Investment Dealer registration required for the position and must maintain all required registrations, licences, and continuing education throughout employment.
  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP) or Personal Financial Planner (PFP) designation, or commitment to complete an approved designation within 24 months of assuming the role and maintain it thereafter.
  • Creative thinker and effective problem solver with a member-centred mindset and a strong commitment to improving processes, enhancing experiences, and delivering business value.
  • Highly adaptable and organized, with the ability to successfully manage multiple and shifting priorities while maintaining focus on results.

Cambrian offers a work environment where teamwork and creative thinking are valued. In addition, we offer continuing professional development and a competitive total compensation package including:

  • A hybrid work environment with the use of advanced technology
  • Extended health and dental benefit options, up to 80% employer-paid premiums dependent on which coverage level chosen
  • Defined Contribution Pension Plan – matched at 6%
  • Short Term Disability, Life Insurance, Long Term Disability, AD&D insurance and EAP
  • Customized training, career development planning, and structured onboarding
  • Staff Banking Benefits - Employee interest rates on Credit Union personal loans, lines of credit, mortgages and credit cards
